So this looks really interesting, from the trailer it looks like this could play like God of War, upgrade weapons learn move sets and win fights though skill and attrition. Or it could be more like Dark Souls where skill means everything and upgrades don't matter because its all about memorizing movements, dodging and getting killed in 1 hit.

I'm hoping for the former, GOW was and is my all time favorite series and style of game play (Dante's inferno, Darksiders, Devil May Cry, Castlevania LoS) it's something im good at and enjoy playing... making a single mistake and dying is not a fun time to me.

Just saw this and the first one question that popped into my head was: Is this a Soulsborne? It sure looks like it from the description and the story. I'm gonna go with yes.

So more like Darksouls, I hope.
I never played Dark Souls or God of War (I would if they where here on gog), so for what it is worth:

Upgrading the characters abilitys, upgrading his weapons and moves, does make a great difference. Dodging and hitting at the right time does make a great difference.

So. Both?
This game is definitely hard and needs you to be very skilled at all the game's mechanics, otherwise you can't even beat the first boss.

You can level up, but it can't make up for lack of skill. If you don't know what you are doing then even with unlimited levels you won't beat the first boss.

As you level up you can extend your skill set, like change your triple attack to a quintuple attack. Or doing a double claw attack. Or counter. And so on.

Unlike Dark Souls, there's no equipment system in this game.

It's more like Sekiro than anything.
