This game almost seems like it's advertised as a single player title, which as a board game-to-video game adaptation makes very little sense. Plus, it's clearly marked as having multiplayer on Steam, but sometimes features between Steam and GOG differ.

So I'd like to know if local multiplayer exists on the GOG version or not. All things being equal, I'd prefer to get it here, but if there's no local multiplayer, I'd definitely pass in favor of the Steam copy.

The game has a local multiplayer in form of hot seat option and cross-platform online multiplayer. There are no differences between any of the versions.

I might buy this but before I do so.... could you please explain if "cross-platform online multiplayer" is possible without installing any additional client software or does this mean that gog users have to install galaxy to play online? Can we just play online by directly contacting other player's IP-addresses? What about lan games (without internet connection)? Thank you!

Okay, thank you! That's exactly what I wanted to know!
There's no real point in lan because it's local, but I understand where you're coming from.

If you want to play online you make csg account right there in the game.

You don't need Galaxy to play online. We use our own servers for matchmaking. No additional software needed at all. All you need to do is create an online account from within the game.

Unfortunately, LAN games are not possible. You can either do a local Pass & Play or play online through our servers.

Hi there,

I have a question:

Do I need to create a "3rd-Party Account" to play this game in SP ?

I never played this game, and on steam store-page it's stated"

"Requires 3rd-Party Account: CGE Account (Supports Linking to Steam Account)"

No, the account is only required to play online games. You can also use it to sync your progress in challenges, achievements, etc. between devices or if you reinstall the game.

Having a LAN/Direct IP option means the game will remain playable in multiplayer on different computers, even if the game servers go down, which will happen sooner or later.

Nowadays, multiplayer games with a LAN/Direct IP option have become a rarity, with problematic and foreseeable consequences in the future. The reason for this is clear, the advent of gaming clients such as the Steam client and Galaxy has made possible the massive tracking of gamer's habits. And tracking means money. I will not push too hard on GOG's Galaxy however, as it remains optional, and Steam's, Ubi's, EA's, Blizzard's, Epic's, are more to blame.

In the same way some DRM systems are being irresponsibly phased out, rendering some old games simply unplayable, in a few years from now, more and more multiplayer games will become unplayable, unless they have a hotseat option, which has its drawbacks, and can't be done for some games. I personally tend to favor the "one screen per player" formula, but that's a matter of taste...
