The player should receive more quest information, in order for them to not mindlessly try every option just to see if something new changed.
Now this is a big topic, and a lot of improvements can be made, but just to start small, the "quest" should get a top bar exactly like inventory bar (day, time, weather, location, money, curse, beryl seal, castle points). For starters it should contain the Princess reputation, and Firefly reputation, if there are more reputations those as well.
A long way down the road a red dot could be added to the "Speak", "Trade", speech options to indicate that something new has happened. Though this is more part of the final touch.
E1: Effects like reputation loss could actually get displayed.

[] If an option would lead to something new, it should get marked with a special frame. Just like when you visit a link on the internet the color indicates whether or not you already visited that link.
[] bio_dismissed should get converted into a point system, and displayed

[] The game could inform the player about missed opportunities, and inform the player of which point system has to be higher. hellservant_1 -> story_2 contains missables.
