Hello again everyone. I am sick and tired of playing T3 on Xbox 360 because the extremely distracting torch, light, environmental objects glitches have ruined the experience for me. If enough of you think my PC can run Thief 3 on at least the minimal (preferably medium) settings then I'll buy it here from GOG.com today. I have a brand new Dell Inspiron desktop. It has a 3.5 GHz dual core processor, 6 gigs of DDR3 memory, Windows 7 OPS (64 bit) anddd the worst part, an integrated video/graphics card (the X4500). I was able to play Painkiller Overdose with no lag on medium/high settings so I was hoping Thief 3 would at the very least be possible on low/medium settings. I just want to be certain before I spend the money, ya know? Thanks in advance to any replies. I got Thief II running now also and am having a blast with it. P.S. I can also use an 8 gig USB memory stick to help boost my systems memory if need be.

well, the thief3 engine is not one of the best, optimizations wise. I'd say it will run, but with shoddy performance. if you have a desktop pc, you really should consider a dedicated graphics card, even for casual gaming - even a cheap radeon hd6570 is worlds faster than the intel integrated bad joke attempt. the card is also available in low profile version, in case you have one of those slim desktops. $55 is a nice price, and with xmas coming soon, it shouldn't be a big deal. just make sure you get the 128bit 1GB version.

should you decide to get the gog version, don't forget the unofficial patch: http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=138607

I'd be pretty upset if I just bought a new desktop and it won't run a game as old as Thief 3.

Yes, you should be able to run it on low-medium graphics, but your onboard Intel card is going to bottleneck the good components.

Don't just order a new card without doing some research though. When Dells have onboard graphics chips, theyre usually also packed with a cheap Power Supply Unit. Don't upgrade the card unless your PSU is at least 400w or so, or youre just going to have a lot of weird electrical problems.I used an Inspiron 570 or something that I got on sale as the base of my current computer, and the first thing I had to upgrade was the PSU.

Replacing your CPU would be the most awkward operation for Inspirons, because you have to re-use whatever kind of proprietary Dell heatsink/fan, but yours is decently clocked for a dual core so that shouldnt be too bad of an issue.
it does not really matter how new the pc is, as long as it has just an (intel) integrated graphics, the gaming performance will be almost non existent. it's ok for windows aero, media player acceleration and perhaps some very simple games (but today, even platformers are starting to require a decent gpu), but that's about it.

as for the card I have recommended, the power consumption is very low, all it requires is a fullsize pci-e slot. as I said, the best deal for the money, instantly curing all intel headaches.

trust me, I'm an engineer (always wanted to say that) :P
