I have a Sweex external 7.1 sound card hooked up to Logitech T7900 and it gives me surround sound in even very old games ... apart from this one. Does anyone know if there's some special setting somewhere that may help? I can switch EAX on and OpanAL on or off and can choose any amount of sound channels but nothing helps.

Kind of difficult to play like this in just stereo sound :(
Do you notice if the EAX is having its intended effect (reverb, spatial effects)? Before the patch, I was using Creative's Alchemy with Windows 7. Are you using Vista or later?. The new patch allows me the use of 5.1 speakers using the OpenAL options, so hopefully you can find a solution that works for you, because yeah, just not the same without the surround effect.

This worked for me:

Just drop the dll and ini file in the game folder and run the normal executable.

I found that if you install TFix, an OpenAL option is added to the software/hardware audio setting. This gives me full 5.1 sound on my Asus Xonar DX, and also allows the EAX option to be enabled to get reverb effects.

This is a nice surprise, as I was trying to use the Xonar's GX/Xear3D compatibility mode to get DirectSound3D/EAX support, but that just caused the game to crash.

Edit: This is on Windows 7 x64, with Asus Xonar DX using analog 5.1 (Logitech Z-5500d speakers).

The indirectsound kind of works for me, though the positional audio seemed a bit broken and my own footsteps were awfully loud.

Hi,

I'm the author of IndirectSound. Could you describe in a bit more detail what problems you found with positional audio so that I can see if they're possible to fix? You can reply here or email me at indirectsound@gmail.com if you prefer.

Thanks in advance!
