Thief I and II here on GOG are missing the cutscenes. Without the cutscenes, an essential part of the game is missing and the atmosphere suffers greatly. It ruins these great games!

There seem to be unofficial patches to run these cutscenes, but that's the job of GOG, not ours. When we buy a game, we can expect a full version. Let's pressure them to make these games run properly. Send requests to the support and post requests in the general forum. If they don't add the cutcenes, then AT LEAST they should mention these missing features in the description of the game. New players don't even know.

And they should add more languages, not just English. The German localisation was excellent!

The cutscene files are here, there's just a compatibility issue with the Indeo codec.

You must be new to retro gaming.

First of all, GOG needs explicit rights from the publisher (Square Enix) to do anything other than sell the game, which in practice happens far more rarely than the site's reputation suggests. Second of all, 90+% of old games need workarounds of some sort due to their inherent dependency on deprecated libraries, sloppy code, and/or driver incompatibility.

that however, is not the case here - the cutscenes are there, and the updated engine plays them just fine for most people. if they don't load, this usually indicates some sort of problem with the computer - which is usually cleared by rebooting it.

try that and see what happens.
Indeed, I can't believe it, the cutscenes are running! :-) It seems that GOG has updated the game. Last time I tried on the same computer, the cutscenes were not there. Some people complained about missing cutscenes in the forum, so I thought it's a general problem. Thank you, I'm very happy it's solved now!
