It seems my Thief 2 is acting up because of my Intel Integrated card. I am surprised by this because, the day I bought my computer, the salesman at Best Buy told me the integrated cards are excellent.

What can I do to fix the graphical glitches? The game is almost unplayable at times.

Voodoo, what do you think?

thanks
he was not lying, they are indeed excellent.- at displaying all your office applications is what he forgot to add.

ok, sarcasm off, while there are some issues like multisampling not working properly, once that is disabled, you should not have any problems running the game as long as you stay away from hires textures, bloom and HDR. if you have visual artifacts, you might have a problem unrelated to Thief - broken driver, overheating etc.

can you post a screenshot?

Heheh... hope you won't be pissed at me for this.. but I saw your reply in the Looking Glass forum to a guy who had an Intel card.. it was quite humorous to see you go off on him about how crappy the cards really are!

Just thought I would pull your chain for a second, bro! I actually have a GTX 660 card and have no problems.

Of course we all appreciate the work you put into the community here.

Merry Xmas
I knew, but decided to give a proper reply anyway, for future reference (also there was a tiny sliver of a chance that you've bought a new laptop in the meantime, and posted while being drunk).

the guy's problem was actually something else - he was not satisfied with the default settings of one of the patchers, and did not like the "your hardware is sub-par, and lowering the default settings would mean decreased visuals for everybody else, do not use the patcher if you do not like it" answer.

what intel hd generation are we actually talking about? because my notebooks Intel HD Graphics 4400 has no problems running the old thief games with pre-configured 8x MSAA and the full Tafferpatcher installation with enhanced textures. ok, i only get between 25-50 fps with that option, but its nonetheless working well. without MSAA i get full 60fps. The intel HD grahpics really got better with the last two processor generations.

yeah, the latest gen gpus (those built directly into the cpus) can at least run with multisampling without visual problems, albeit slowly (but they still have problems when you try to run the editor in the hardware mode, so the driver is still kind of dodgy). it's the previous gen of intel gpus that has the infamous black screen problem - and there is still a lot of those in use.
