It's open ended, more or less. You need to "beat" all locations.

If you want to see the "Ending" Video, go to "GOG\Theme Park\GAME\DATA" and rename the "wingame.dat" into "intro.dat" (backup the real "intro.dat") .

You can now watch the intro which is actually the Endgame/Winn Video.

I read in a manual online that you have to place 1st in all 6 categories, but I'm always one short.

I'll just follow your trick, I think after I finish all locations.

Edit: placing 1st in all 6 categories doesn't end the game.

that might have been true too.

I never investigated that, though there was always one category I was slacking ;P
On the other hand, with the "shadow" AI, it is difficult to tell how the game ranks you.

I don't have any special hints, sadly. I made a lot of millions on the easy levels, so building a great theme park was easy after that (full research, a lot of handymen and entertainers, etc). I placed 1st in all categories (finally!) on two occasions in the same park and it didn't end the game. It also glitched and nobody was bidding on my park when it was making a lot of money twice, as well.

I don't recall how the park value was estimated. Ah OK so you get the free rides/shops first and than start the harder difficulty. ;)

The stated aim of the game ("Only when your numero uno in each category have you achieved your aim of constructing the ultimate Theme Park) has really bothered me as well!

Have you managed to do all 6 and sell the park in the same year?
I have a vague memory of doing this and getting a special marker, but on profile I can't remember!! (Or I could of just seen something else!!)

I'm currently struggling with being number 1 in excitement... any tips?

Managed to be numero uno in every category but that didn't end the game. Don't know if I was supposed to do it for more years (not sure if I was number 1 in consecutive years).

In any case, I had gained enough millions to call it quits, regardless. I scratched my 25-year-old itch.
