Hello, i m playing witcher for about one week. Everythink was good but today when i want to play, game was updating.
It was strange for me cause there wasn`t new updates for witcher. After downloading about 600 mb i saw an information:
Witcher 3 installation falied. Play button was gray so i click repair and then I saw information installation failed disc access problem. I reinstall game and gog galaxy and i can`t play. When i delete gog galaxy i can play witcher but the game is not updated and i for example can`t duble shift for quicker horse riding. It is not good for me, i paid very much on this game and i want to play comfortable. Can somebody help me ?
I know that there are many mistakes in my saying but i don`t know english very good because im form poland and i m not even adult so...
I hope somebody will help me :D

You can easily run an updated game without using GOG Galaxy at all. You simply need to download the 1.10 installer (8 parts), and then the 1.12.1 patch. Also download any DLCs you have. Install the game. Install the DLCs. Install the patch. Play. That's it.

I have the same problem this new update has a bug that made this problem :( I don't know what to do too. I must play out of the gog

As per your suggestion Hickory, we download and install the entire game again?
What about any progress we have made, won't that disappear if we uninstall and reinstall the game?

Even if it's possible to make it run I find it unacceptable.
I'm a casual gamer, and now I had an hour and a half to play, an update is required to play. I install the update and the entire game becomes useless. So far 45 minutes of my available 90 minutes, have been spent installing update, rebooting, trying to identify the cause of the problem.

No progress is lost. Your saved games are not stored in the game folder, and will not be deleted when you uninstall, unless you tell the installer to delete them.

If you feel so strongly about this issue, take it up with support. This is a public forum.

same problem here. maingame and HoS are allready updated on 1.12 but it will update anything. disk access problems :(

The cause of the problem is that some of the files Galaxy attempts to update is read only.

One solution (that I used) is to:

Start a command prompt as administrator
Issue command: attrib -1 "drive:\game directory\*.*" /s
exit command prompt

drive and game directory is where your game is installed, default I believe is "C:\GOG Games\The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt"
If you use default installation you can cut and paste next line:
attrib -r "C:\GOG Games\The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt\*.*" /s

After this you should be able to run update from Galaxy.

On another note, it's possible to run the game from installation directory\bin\?\witcher3.exe
where ? for me is x64, I don't know what it is in 32 bit installation.

but how does happend after one year ? in this time, i havnt any change on my system.
