Witcher 3 was working fine for me since I started playing it several years ago until a few weeks ago, when I installed the next gen update (I played it just 4 weeks ago without the next gen update). Since I installed the next gen update Witcher 3 doesn't want to launch anymore. When I try to start it, it does appear as a process in the Task Manager, but the game just doesn't come up.

For the past few days I have searched the internet for solutions to this issue, but nothing worked. So here is what I have tried so far:

- Removing the Witcher 3 folder under user/documents to clear out all my previous configs

- Launching the witcher3.exe without GOG

- Launching Witcher 3 as administrator

- Reinstalling the game (I had the old normal Witcher 3 edition installation, but I also tried switching to the Witcher 3 Complete Edition and installing this instead, but it didn't change anything in regards to my issue)

- Uninstalling GOG (including the respective "sc delete" cmd commands)

- Removing/renaming the GOG.dll and the Galaxy.dll (this provoked an error message saying that the Galaxy.dll is missing)

- Reinstalling GOG

- Installing/repairing all the Microsoft Visual C++ redistributables

- Reinstalling my graphics drivers

- Disabling all apps with overlays

- Launch Windows in clean boot mode

All of this did not solve my problem. The game just doesn't come up when I try to launch it and I ran out of ideas what to do. This is a very rare situation for me, because as an IT guy who works in the industry I usually manage to fix such issues myself, but not this time. Help please!

Revert back to the classis edition.
Same problem with me, I hope we will find the way to fix it

You can play the DX 11 version then. I have it here and Steam. I have the steam version installed and play DX 11 until they fix DX 12.

What's your Hardware. Maybe it's that.

I have the exact same issue! I haven't found any solutions either unfortunately.

I have played in DX12 just fine BEFORE the Next Gen Update and would like to continue playing in DX 12.

My hardware is definitely not the issue here:
CPU: i7-12700k
RAM: 32 GB DDR5
GPU: Geforce RTX 2080

Edit: Just tested DX11 anyways and it shows the same faulty behaviour (doesn't launch, just appears in Task Manager).

I have same problem, worked fine though after next gen release... Steam version running ok for me.

EDIT: I deleted "patch0" folder in "...\The Witcher 3\content" After that game started after couple of seconds. I also reverted to the 4.0 release version but it was not starting anyway until i deleted this folder. I also deleted config files in documents. And let the game created new ones, it created the files but also failed to start.

Thank you so much!!! This was it! Once I deleted the "patch0" folder (see attached screenshot) the game finally did launch again!

@Mods/Devs: You might wanna include this into your FAQ and here: https://support.cdprojektred.com/en/witcher-3/pc/sp-technical/issue/1003/the-game-is-not-launching-2

Got the same problem, but the folder patch0 is nowhere to found where it should be. Trying to manually creating one'll make the game to start with a black screen but no crash.
I too didn't have patch0.
What fixed it for me was following "Verify integrity of game files" guide in cdprojektred's website. (can't post links, just google "verify-integrity-of-game-files-2" with quotes). Turned out I had some corrupt files.
