Witcher 3 was working fine for me since I started playing it several years ago until a few weeks ago, when I installed the next gen update (I played it just 4 weeks ago without the next gen update). Since I installed the next gen update Witcher 3 doesn't want to launch anymore. When I try to start it, it does appear as a process in the Task Manager, but the game just doesn't come up.
For the past few days I have searched the internet for solutions to this issue, but nothing worked. So here is what I have tried so far:
- Removing the Witcher 3 folder under user/documents to clear out all my previous configs
- Launching the witcher3.exe without GOG
- Launching Witcher 3 as administrator
- Reinstalling the game (I had the old normal Witcher 3 edition installation, but I also tried switching to the Witcher 3 Complete Edition and installing this instead, but it didn't change anything in regards to my issue)
- Uninstalling GOG (including the respective "sc delete" cmd commands)
- Removing/renaming the GOG.dll and the Galaxy.dll (this provoked an error message saying that the Galaxy.dll is missing)
- Reinstalling GOG
- Installing/repairing all the Microsoft Visual C++ redistributables
- Reinstalling my graphics drivers
- Disabling all apps with overlays
- Launch Windows in clean boot mode
All of this did not solve my problem. The game just doesn't come up when I try to launch it and I ran out of ideas what to do. This is a very rare situation for me, because as an IT guy who works in the industry I usually manage to fix such issues myself, but not this time. Help please!
