oozekip: I've had a similar issue. No videos are playing (no legal text on startup, no startup video) and when I hit continue the game just does not load (along with no intro video). I'm on the latest Nvidia drivers, and I can not figure out what is wrong. I've tried a clean install, restart, etc, and it just does not work on windows 10 for me.
Might just be an issue with the video. Is video working in any other games?

I'm not an expert by any means, but I've seen weird things like this happen before that ended up being a codec issue.

Everything else worked fine. I did figure it out, though. I went directly to the Nvidia website (via the link posted above) and downloaded the driver from there. For whatever reason, Geforce experience was saying that I was on the most recent driver when I was not.

If you have this problem and Geforce experience tells you that you have the latest drivers even when you hit check for updates, it's lying to you. Manually check for updates on their site. The installation may say it failed (it did for me), but it installed a newer version of the drivers and only failed on the extra stuff which Geforce experience actually was keeping up-to-date.

Tristor21: Managed to solve my problems. Nvidia hadn't updated my drivers as the win10 update had corrupted my Java and I had to reinstall it. Once I'd done that the new driver for the GTX 980 was downloaded and the game worked again.
Thanks to all the people who tried to help.
Java has nothing to do with the game or anything in Windows.
Just to have it in one place: Another user had to reinstall the VC++ Red. 2012.

One thing to remember for those that updated in place and didn't do a clean install, is that by leaving everything in place and not reinstalling, some of the redistributable stuff like certain .Net apps Visual C++ files, etc, might be missing. Even if you kept your install, it couldn't hurt to reinstall the game on top of itself.. Always make a backup of your save games though. Im on Windows 10 pro by the way. Love it on all my devices.
Hi all,

Like with others the Witcher 3 does not start after a Windows 10 upgrade (from Windows 7) on my PC

When I start it, I shortly see the (new) hourglass and then nothing, no error messages, no screens

I have upgraded my videocard drivers (AMD)

I have reinstalled the vcredist_x64 as suggested in the youtube video (fnPtUbKVB5Y) (though I did not find it in my Witcher 3 folder as is described in this video, I found the exact same in a Steam folder)

Does anyone have any more thoughts?

Thanks
Hi again,

I have reinstalled the Witcher 3 completely (35 Gig download takes forever) but still the same, an hourglass for a second or two and then nothing.

Chris
I'm also having this problem. Installed the latest drivers, repaired Visual Studio C++, re-installed the game, and still when I try to start I get a pinwheel for a second, and then nothing.

In the task manager I can see that the witcher 3 process is actually taking up 23% of my CPU and 500 MB of memory, but there's no evidence it's doing anything.
Hi All,

Same problem from a completely fresh install of Windows 10 x64...

Launch, with Galaxy client and nothing ... No errors, but process in task manager exists ...

Launch with set shortcut "run as Administrator" do the same ...

Install all DLC, and new extension and same ...

Need a fix quickly.
