Maybe I'm missing something, but I have W3 installed to an external drive, and when I try to run the patches, it says it cannot find W3 installed. I have placed the patch files in the folder its installed in, but still, same error. What am I doing wrong?

I don't think your doing anything wrong,maybe it's not reading the external drive properly.

It's a registry issue. Try searching for it.

PS. It's an unorthodox installation that one. Is game performance on par with installing it normally on an internal drive?

Everything is working in the game. But I would love to have the patches. As for the registry issue, I must be overlooking it, or searching incorrectly... I can't find anything! Also, all my gog games are on an external, as I play on my laptop and desktop. Never had this issue before.

Well,some of the patches are breaking the game.

There's an issue if you installed Witcher 3 on your desktop (vice versa) then later on plugged it on your laptop and attempted to install the update.

Maybe you can install Witcher 3 in different directories in your external drive? One for desktop, one for laptop? Although it's cumbersome but look at the big picture you have redundant copies of the game.
