Pretty simple, I'd like to know what are the differences between the two. I know that on steam, there isn't, but I've heard that on GOG there are some technical differences. If yes, are my saves compatible with GOTY?

Thanks in advance guys :)
Well, from my past research, the base game uses the blood n wine intro screen. The goty switches randomly between the 2 expansions. The dlc in the main menu are organised a bit different. The files are a bit different and some people claim the goty runs smoother. However I never tested the performance.

Clearly there are tweaks

I'm not sure about game compatibility. If you have the standard and then upgrade to goty, your save should work. It may possibly work the other way too but I haven't tested. I just use goty since its newer

I think there were other slight changes too but I can't remember

The game itself is identical. Provided you don't play on consoles your saves are compatible.

I believe the thinking on this is that original installations may have multiple patch residue that affects performance. If both games are fresh installs, there should be no difference.
I had been through the ringer in trying to get the game to launch consistantly. Like, before switching over to GOTY, there was like a 4/10 chance that A: the game would run modded and a 2-3/10 chance that B: the game would run modded and properly display all of my mods. Even with the patch that makes the original game and DLC essentially the same as the GOTY, the game was basically dead for me. After transferring over to GOTY though, I'm hitting 100%. I haven't had a single time where the game didn't launch.

It's anecdotle, but, for me, the game is much, much more consistant when played GOTY for mods.
Witcher 3 GOTY

Pros( from my experience )
-Better Graphics
-Better Cut scenes
-Quests will not glitch (100% Confirmed)
-The price of the original is $41.39 plus 2 Addons 8.13 HS & 16.29 B&W = $65.81
GOTY Edition is = $51.82 you save $13.99. But still CD Red deserve all the money for their hard work.
-Better Game play (slightly, the controls aren't clunky, horse, combat, and etc.)
-You will not have to install the DLC, and Addons manually. And worry about the game not working if you installed something in the wrong order.

-Notice: If you already own the original game, you will get the GOTY for free.

Cons
-Stole too much material from other writers, thus is overly praised for nothing.
Nothing original, the whole game is one easter egg to other writers. Shameless plagiarism.

It's listed as solved in this thread, but that's assuming the credibility of the person who answered.
"Hickory

It does not matter which of the two you install.
It will be the same experience.
The GOTY is the better method since it is a single installer (that's the ONLY difference)."
