Here's the deal:
When i'm travelling long distances i find myself looking way too much to the minimap to be sure i'm going the right direction and whatnot. I believe the minimap requires way more atention than it should, since the game is so full of details to look around.
So, what happens is one of two things, either i spend most of the travelling time looking to the minimap, or i enjoy the vistas and the environment art and get lost trying to reach my goal, which then makes me go back to speding too much time paying atention to the minimap.

I wish i could enjoy the environment, the artwork and the atention to detail this game has, and, at the same time, keep track of where i'm going.

The way i believe this can be achieved is to have a marker/icon on the screen that points the direction of where i should go. It doesn't need to be a lot of markers like Skyrim's UI that shows the direction of everything nearby, but a single one related to the quest that is being tracked would be nice.

Do people agree with me on that? Let's discuss and talk about it;

PS: There are great games that doesn't point anything to the player, like Gothic3, but they're designed to give the player enough information so he can find things by himself. TW3 is not like that. So.. i know there's the possibility of disabling elements of the UI, but i dont believe it would solve this issue.

I'm with you... really often I only look on the minimap to see which road I have to follow, to see if markers of nearby quests pop up and things like that. I always have to remember to look at the actual world so that I don't miss how beautiful it is done.

Yeah, pretty much my experience.
With the workaround i have in mind, we would still need to look at the minimap to find sidequests or other pop ups, but really thats the point of the minimap. I don't want to make it completely useless.
Hope everyone agree.
Only if it's on/off optional as almost all HUD elements because I love being lost sometimes when I try to go to my goal destination. I even play with minimap off.
I open the overworld map at the beginning of my trip and usually just horse it by holding Shift along the road till I'm close.

I also randomly wander into encounters and do them; just gotta check main map again after.
I don't see any reason for a magic arrow.

i do and i se cond the OP, i noticed today how much i am just staring at the minimap & ignoring the world around me.

i am not going to turn the minimap off as i dont play games to get headaches and that is sure way for me to get one.

but something minimal when on horseback especially would be a nice compromise i think; great idea.

Yeah, of course. People who like the way things are now should be able to keep it this way.
I would like to be able to see the color of the various oils applied on my swords,so aside from the fact that imho that'll be cool,it is player friendly, cuz as the sword return to its default color, player will know that the buff is off due to its own use on monsters..
I remember that this feature was on for TW1 and I loved it.
Plus,Imho atm it breaks immersion a bit to be forced to check the menu to be sure that the buff is still on,cuz I need to pay attention on Death March difficulty,a couple of strikes from a monster and my health is minus 3/4 (I like that) and open the menu to check if the buff is still on,totally breaks that feeling to be part of Geralt's world...
What do you think about this?

Hope devs read this and add in a future patch.

Yes, that would be great. It should be a slight effect, not a very bright/strong one, but the effect would definately be great. Oh and: Automatically renew the oil out of combat, so that we only have to open the inventory to change oils.
I think a hotkey to quickly toggle minimap on and off would be enough.
Loads of suggestions here.

Don't you think we are intelligent enough to remember which turn to take when we follow the road? Or just remember the general direction in which we should go? It could be implemented as an optional upgrade, however, I think this is not a huge problem. Problem is with us as games got dumbed down....So now we can't travel around the world and memorize where to turn? Gosh....I have this problem too but...I remember the time when RPG didn't have any markers. Just detail descriptions of how to get 'there'. Anyone remembers Baldurs Gate 1? :) Good old times when the games required more player input.
Maybe you would like to back up this:

http://www.gog.com/forum/the_witcher_3_wild_hunt/wishlist_what_would_you_like_to_see_in_upcoming_patches
- FOV Slider. (An absolute necessity)
- The ability to apply oil during combat (A must have, combat feels trial and error. Broken and frustrating without it)
- Fix weapon strikes clipping through enemies. Combat generally needs to be smoother.
- The ability to break combat stance and automatic camera lock. VERY FRUSTRATING!
- Color correction.
- Fix stuttering when panning the camera.
- Fix horseback frame skipping.
- Faster loading times.
- Bugs or broken quests

I don't think we need a hotkey to remove the minimap.
I think these people who get annoyed looking at it, need a hotkey to pop up a quest arrow in main view area so they can see where they going that fades over 10 seconds or so.
