I'm not sure if it's even worth posting since I sent in a ticket asking for a refund, but I guess I'll ask anyway.

I've been able to run Assassin's Creed Odyssey just fine on my laptop, however I bought Witcher 3 on sale and it's been stuck at around 10-12fps even on low settings.

I tried following some steps on the CDprojekt website to help improve the fps but it seems like it made it worse and not better.

My computer specs:

MSI GV72 8RD

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8750H CPUT @ 2.20GHz, ~2.2GHz

Memory: 8192MB Ram

Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti

Memory: 8040MB

That's really weird. You can check some video on youtube, even with ultra settings, you should have like 30 FPS with GTX 1050 Ti.
I would ask the support for help first, in case they cannot help you, ask for a refund.

I suggest you can have a check on NVIDIA setting, I've meet similar situation in other games before.
I know this seems super basic, but have you tried doing a proper reboot? Windows 10's hybrid boot is nice for the sake of quicker startup but it does result in some annoying slowdown here and there if you go a long time without rebooting.

Also, it could be related to your hard drive, especially if you have trouble with stuttering. Do you happen to know what the RPM on your hard drive is?

Odyssey is a very poorly-optimized game on PC whereas The Witcher 3 is a very, very well-optimized game on PC. The fact that you're able to run Odyssey but not W3 implies that something weird is going on with your PC. It probably couldn't hurt to run some virus and cleanup scans, just to be on the safe side.

I hope you can get things working because this game is a masterpiece and can be very beautiful from a graphical standpoint!

I know you may checked already but have you tried to see witch video card the game is using? In over a decade since I use laptops this is the only "problem" I've encountered. When I install a new game sometimes the game executable chooses to use the integrated graphics instead of the dedicated NVIDIA or AMD card. This results of course in very poor performance.

This might be it actually. I was following a step to improve the fps that involved me having to go into the Nvidia control panel to change some settings for the executable for the Witcher 3 and when I tried to set it to run using my Nvidia graphics card it said access was denied and that my settings weren't applied.

I tried running nvidia control panel as adminstrator but it didn't make a difference.

Thanks everyone for the advice I'll look into what you suggested. It's reassuring to know it should be running fine on my laptop at least.

@jakobfel I don't know what the RPM for my hard drive is but I can look into it.

Edit: I managed to fix the problem. It turns out it was using my integrated graphics card by default instead of my Nvidia graphics card. So I just had to manually update my Nvidia graphics card. (I think I had tried updating it automatically before but it hadn't worked correctly)

Now that I think about it, I got GTA V for free on the epic store the other day and it had been a bit laggy too. So that might have been the problem there as well.
