I get attacked by 3 or more enemies, Geralt pulls out his sword. We fight, I dodged him away and get a little space, etc. I go back to fight and he`s punching with fists! What the?

I noticed after a bit he has this annoying habit of reholstering his sword if you move him a little bit away even when enemies are still active. Then I find he`s punching monsters with his fists! It happens all the time. I even made sure I had Manual sword use switched on, but he STILL does it. He`s died several times cos he`s been punching with his fists by the time I realise he`s not got his sword out. It`s driving me nuts.

Is ther some kind of solution? Am I doing something wrong?

edit: Forgot to mention this is the Witcher 3, never had this problem with previous Witcher games.

Nope. Just started playing a couple of days ago.

Ok, I was just trying to rule out script changes. I've never come across your issue but maybe somebody else has.

So you haven`t had this? That gives me hope, maybe I`m doing something wrong...

Ok, I think i`ve figured it out. It`s a bug.

I have my sidestep left and right on the keyboard as `z` and `c`. C appears to be the sheath weapon control even though the settings don`t say anyway, so whenever I press `C` to sidestep right, he sheaths his sword!

Even though I have clearly selected the controls correctly, (`C` for sidestep) there`s no way to re-assign the `sheath sword` control- None. So whenever he sidesteps he`ll put away his blade.

There are no explanation why this IS or anything. I`ve always used `ZXC` for years for my `left, back and side` stepping.

I can`t believe that no one mentioned this in any of their reviews and that this has not been fixed at all. I`ve played every Witcher on these settings.
