I've a savegame whose main story is finished and I just want to go around fighting enemies and exploring, but I'd prefer to do so as Cirilla instead of Geralt.

The Witcher 3 nexus mod causes checksum errors. Any ideas?
Close the game down (important). Now open Windows Explorer at the following location:

<%INSTALL PATH%>..\The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt\bin\config\base\

Open up general.ini in Notepad. Under the [General] section add the following:

DBGConsoleOn=true

Start the game and open the console without a mod.

After following instructions exactly, this isn;t working for me. Any idea?

Your game is probably installed inside the protected Windows 'Program Files' structure. Uninstall it and reinstall outside of Program Files.
Good guess, but alas, no, it is not.

Does version matter? I have version 1.31

No, I have 1.31. Post the contents of your 'general.ini' here.

Change it to

[General]
ConfigVersion=2
DBGConsoleOn=true

That's what I have. And make sure the keyboard shortcut you're using is correct and you don't have something intercepting key presses.

Thanks, but that didn't do it. All it did was change a bunch of my settings (vlook invert, resolution, etc), but didn't help bring up the command console.

I have also tried a few mods from Nexus and some stuff I've seen which worked for other people across some forums, and nothing has worked for me. Not sure what the deal is.

I appreciate your help.
Defintely do

[General]
ConfigVersion=2
DBGConsoleOn=true

Some pages / modders post

[General]
ConfigVersion=2
DBGConsoleON=true

which is wrong. typo must be correct.

If this doesnt work either do not use Start from GOG but open Game folder and use
"xxx\The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt GOTY\Launch The Witcher 3 - Wild Hunt - Game of the Year Edition.lnk"

this way you may loose the possibility to do Screenshots though :)

Oh really? I didn't think it is so easy to do. But, anyway, please, move forward with your research!

Out of curiousity, is the Debug/Dev Consoile still invisible or can you see what you are typing again? I know for a bit you would hit tilde and it would look like nothing was happening. Then you'd put your command in, hit enter and it would work as intended. I'm wondering if this is the case and why so many people think it is broken.

Thank you for this advice, as today was the first time I attempted to use the console and it wasn't working, but it worked after copying/pasting your DBG...line in the file you mentioned. I'm on the latest version of the game (4.04a) in case this helps others know if it would work.
