I tried to launch this game again today after not touching it in several months, it is straight up GONE without a trace, no files and no saves! All I can find are the old installation files proving I had it on my PC at one point. Anybody know what happened? Is there any way to get my saves back?
Some details, please:

* What operating system?
* Are you using Galaxy?
* What version was your game?
* Where have you looked for the saves?
* Have you scanned your system for viruses/malware?

Games don't just disappear.
If you use WIN10 maybe some kind of a win-update caused the problem. This OS has a mind on his own I swear ;))

I had once a simular problem. Win did a big update and afterwards the launcher of the game was still there but the game itself and all the savegames (...\username\Documents\The Witcher 3\gamesaves) were gone. The same for some other games I had on my PC. Strangely it only happend to "rude games". Games like "journey of a roach" stayed untouched...

I reinstalled everything and until know it does not happen again.
But since then I always have a copie of the gamesaves in a different folder. Yust in case... ;)
I am on Win 10, and I used GoG Galaxy to update and maintain the game.
The last time I played was right after the 2nd big DLC expansion, not sure what version that was. I checked my documents and at least my saved games are there, hopefully I can still use them. This was so weird though, I don't remember asking the PC to uninstall my game.

notzaar: I checked my documents and at least my saved games are there,
You need to be consistent in what information you are providing people trying to help you. In your original post your stated that your saves had also disappeared.

This happened to me yesterday. I tried so many things but was forced to reinstall the game. Like you, I didn't uninstall it. In fact, I was playing it the night before and have no idea why that'd happen. According to my friend, it's an issue with GOG itself that the fans had to patch, but I was unable to make the patch work. If this is the case, then GOG and by extension- CDPR NEED to fix this. After all, this is their launcher with their game. I hope to God that this doesn't happen with CyberPunk.

I can also verify this can happen.
Both Gwent and Thronebreaker just vanished altogether.
I'm quite certain an esteemed "gentleman" from Skellige isles would put it: "I once lopped off 2 heads with one blow".

I've got an internet connection that's capable of downloading games here at a whopping 0.1MB/s, on a good day, so I do share your fears concerning losing everything when bigger games are involved.

Quite the conundrum this, it seems.

There was a windows 10 update that basically wiped part of a drive. Thats likely the reason. Your saves should still be around somewhere tho. Just reinstall the game.
Yes !! Games do just disappear ! All traces of my game are gone !! Simcity 3000 Unlimited !!! No saves ! Nothing.
It's horseshit !!
