I've been playing Witcher 3 on my XPS 13 9360 512RAM 16GB memory (I know, its not designed for gaming) on lowest settings and it had been working fine (70 hours of gameplay) until it crashed recently. Now laptop has slowed, game runs extremely slowly and audio is jittery. Fan always used to reach higher gear and produce more heat on game start-up but now doesn't whatever it is doing. Reset laptop and cleaned fan with general performance improving slightly game remains intolerably slow. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Many thanks,

Did you try setting your laptop to full performance? You can find it in the Power Options accessible by right clicking the battery icon in system tray. Also, if you have an Nvidia graphics card, do the same in the Nvidia Control Panel.

There's a possibility that your laptop has overheated while playing the game. Did you get any kind of message when the crash occurred or did the computer just suddenly shut itself down?

Hi,

Thanks for the response. Yeah I have set my laptop to full performance and 'turbo boosted' game performance with AVG. I think it over heated as well but all diagnostic tests I have run say it is working fine. What's the best way to tell if something has fried? The laptop is so quiet now, i used to hear the fan every now and again but now never and it never warms up. Performance across whole laptop now has dropped; web pages taking ages to load and even start bar stutters.

There's no such way other than standard tests such as memtest86, HD Tune, graphics benchmarks etc. This is an unusual problem. When something fires, usually the computer stops working at all.

You should check the hardware temperatures, if you haven't done so already. Something might have happened to fans in your laptop. Maybe the processor or graphics card is throttling due to overheating. Good tools to do this are HWMonitor and HWInfo.

Hi, sorry I meant to reply sooner. I took it in for repairs and as I suspected, the fan had fried even though nothing appeared on the tests. Working as well as before now. Thanks for the help!
