And can the starting witcher armor be upgraded more than once?

I didn't even know you could upgrade your starter armor. I'm still carrying the viper swords, but they get useless after a few levels. Look for the gryphin gear, or the feline one. Those are designed for lvl 11-20, I guess.
I have read elsewhere that the armor only has the 1 upgrade to be found in White Orchard. Still not sure about the swords... though my guess is that they cannot be upgraded.

Viper set not really. I didn't stumble upon anything related to that. Later in the game, be sure to have an eye on special maps sold by some merchants in Velen. You will find more gear schematics to look for. The coolest thing about it is that those later sets are fully upgradable and they change appearance when upgraded!

Nice. i will go ahead and salvage the swords then. Been exploring Velen for quite a while now. :)
I only have the steel Viper sword. Means there's more Viper gears?
There are both steel and silver Viper swords, and both blueprints are found in White Orchard.

In the same quest?

edit: alright, seems that you can get the silver sword diagram in a quest in the cemetery. I actually did that quest and got the diagram, but when I forged the sword, I obtained the steel one. There must be some kind of bug.

Yup. You found one in a cabin in the woods as part of another quest, then the other is
