This was (actually: is!) a true let down regarding The Witcher 2: Last time I checked (which was about 6 months ago) The Witcher 2 was still unplayable due to a rare bug that makes your game crash all the time, if you play a translated version that uses umlauts (ä, ö, ü = the German version).

Now I wonder: Will this still happen in The Witcher 3?

Due to the above mentioned bug I never finished The Witcher 2, although I know that an unofficial fix does exist. However I think this is something that should have been adressed by the developers a long time ago!

You should really get that unofficial fix and finish it, rather than wait for a miracle. In any case you'll still have the possibility of playing it in English.
My first playthrough of TW2 was in German and I can't remember if I used the unofficial fix but the game was definately running fine. So, just use the fix and finish TW2 to import your save to TW3. (And indipendend from that it is worth finishing TW2. ^^
