The answer seems to be no, but I was really hoping I'd missed something.

The Witcher 2 required others to make swords and armour, but Geralt could make most other things himself. Has this changed in The Witcher 3?

The "Crafting Requirements" for early swords say "Blacksmith/Amateur".
The "Crafting Requirements" for early armour say "Armorer/Amateur".
But the "Crafting Requirements" for simpler items, like linen, say "Craftsman/Amateur".

So is Geralt a Crafstman or...?

Any help appreciated.

Armorers and smiths both offer you the opportunity to craft whatever you like during the conversation with them. Higher level the crafter the broader your options are.
I can craft by myself things like thread and leather, but the schemes to do so are needed. Craftsmen can make you more complex things.

Ooo, ooo :o) How do you make thread/leather? Whenever I try it says "You cannot craft items here"

Indeed, but that costs coin. Can I do it myself? Nephilim88 says thread and leather can be made, but even though I have the scheme and it comes up in Crafting as Green Text, I don't get the Press 'E' to craft prompt. When I press it anyway, it says "You cannot craft items here". Am I in the wrong place?

Sorry, I forgot to add that theorically it can be done (I see the green text as well when I scroll the list to make potions) but I haven't tried making some yet. I'll try and let you know ;)

Ahh, I see. Yeah, potions come up with the "[E] Craft Item" prompt, which is why I figured that I couldn't make things like thread and string. I didn't know why it was telling me "You cannot craft items here" though. That kinda seemed to be saying that I could make the item if I were somewhere else.

Only on the crafting interface by the looks of it, I tried crafting on my own right next to the anvil and you get the same message. Probably for the fact that you are a witcher, not a smith :)

Hmmm, that's what I figured. Which is kinda a shame.

But where does Crafter fall on the Witcher --> Smith scale? :oD That's rhetorical.

I'll leave the Question open, just in case, but thanks for your answers.
