viennas: Blood & Wine, Hearts of Stone are standalone, they have nothing to do with the main actors, story or or whatever.
Of course they do. Geralt is the main actor of all of them to begin with. Regis, Shani, etc. - all of these characters are very much main actors of the Witcher saga, and if you say Blood and Wine doesn't do anything to give more depth to other important characters you have clearly not played it very much.

viennas: The Witcher is based on a book,..where all this is already written and CD projekt makes a bad job to reflect main actors history, stories,...we can debate this forever, but it makes no sense if you can't see, that a game fail a lot in certain segments, as far you need to google main actors history,...to make any sense out of actors, to become interesting,..
The Witcher is a direct sequel of the books. It doesn't exactly hide this fact from you. If you're bothered by not knowing stories it continues, it's your own fault for not purchasing the books which have now been translated to many languages, not the game's for not telling you everything, and it does tell you a lot trough Character entries in Journal. Additionally, you're free to purchase and read the books, they're quite widely available. However, it would be extremely counter-immersive if the game spent time repeating facts Geralt and other characters already know.

... difference to people with preconceptions of how it *should* be. This is a fantasy by CD Projekt that is only *based* on the books. Take it for what it is, not what you think it should be, then you'll enjoy it.

Oh that was a good advice, I agree, It's not that I would think it's a bad game, but It could be better:p. But Fenixp, I can't agree with your statements, does not matter, I go now try to find some mod that changes Blood & Wine hdr lighting to a ''normal'' one, have fun.
I'm not sure an option to kill Syanna had made the DLC better in anyway but a different scenario where Detlaff didn't make war on an entire region would have been preferrable. It makes sense, Regis said he had a temperamental personality but yet in one situation, he left to calm down as Regis said he didn't wanted to act rashly - declaring an open war goes against the traits of typical vampires, they lurk and hunt in the shadow to increase their survival. It would have been far more interesting if Detlaff had declared war but not openly.

It would also have been interesting if you could have done a personal quest for the Elder where the reward would have been either that he threaten or kill Detlaff making you bypass the whole boss situation as non-combat option (threaten and he would even have lived). This particular part that you never could fight the Elder though was one of my favourites, it was a very rare moment of displaying how dangerous he was, possibly even more than Gaunter O'Dimm, not because of his nature but because he didn't care about Geralt's life one bit.
From the OP

Wow very constructive criticism of my constructive criticism.

To comment on your comments:

1) My Geralt understands the danger of Detlaff. My Geralt would have skewered Aryana at the first opportunity and brought Detlaff her carcass saying. "She played you like a fool, get over it and stop murdering 1000s of people who don't have a clue why they are dying horrible deaths including children. If Detalff decided to kill Geralt at this point I would consider it a worthy death. And yes death is what happens immediately when a higher vampire decides to kill you.

2) Yes, your vampire friend even makes a joke about vampires being like demigods. More than once.

3) The whole second half just doesn't flow. Aryana perhaps attempts the most dangerous extortion ever attempted. It just doesn't flow right considering the risk involved both pre and post death. Her character doesn't come across as one who could pull it off or even attempt it.

The whole second half doesn't flow or make sense but most of all it isn't satisfying. There are no moments or decisions I felt empowered about or interested in.. It was all reactive dealing with characters and situations my Geralt would rather walk away from because the people involved are all just too stupid and dysfunctional to care about.

Blackmailing a higher vampire is perhaps the most risky possible action a being could take in the witcher universe. Can you really say the risks rewards and motivations involved made sense.

You clearly don't see the connection here, do you? ^^

It's 'all about you', and my previous post about taking it for what it is, not what *you* think it should be has gone on deaf ears.
