Hey guys, so before we start, I've got an AMD R9 290, 8 GIG of RAM and an i5 4590 @ 3.30 GHz Processor.

I've read SO many comments on threads about perfomance, with the same card, or even worse AMD cards then mine, getting 60FPS at ULTRA settings. I don't even get that on medium.

I turned the tessallation down to 8x in the Control centre, because I like hairworks, and on High with hairworks I get about 40-45FPS with it of I get 45-very rare low fifties.

Basically, I can't get a really good framerate in the game,and I would like your help, is it my processor? Should I overclock?

i have the 290x same ram but amd processer at 3.40ghz and dont have a single problem on max settings at constant 60 fps try setting youre max fps to 30

You can easily monitor a CPU/GPU load using MSI Afterburner. How much loaded your CPU?

It's not your processor, TW3 has so low CPU performance requirements that it's almost ridiculous. ;)

I'd say your performance is absolutely fine, if you're at FullHD. People claim to be playing at ultra and 60FPS all the time, without ever mentioning their hardware and screen resolution - don't take them seriously.

Ah, another Red brother! With Hairworks on your performance is fine, so do not worry, this thing is FPS-eater.

The hair works is probably the main issue for you. I have R9 280, full post-processing options, playing on high settings, but no hairworks, 60FPS stable

Can I ask what CPU and OS you are using? I also have an R9 280, hairworks turned off, full post processing but I've had to knock everything to medium and I can indeed reach 60fps (@1080p) but it's far from stable with dips as low as 41fps, any help/suggestions would be brilliant at this point.
Also I'm running an i5 @4.2Ghz with 8Gb RAM, win 8.1

Hey guys, there's a 15.5 pre-beta driver over at guru3d, that's supposed to increase performance for the witcher 3 :

I honestly haven't noticed any fps improvements, but maybe it'll work for some of you.
The official 15.5 release should be soon, said to increase performance for w3 and project cars, so if you are unsure about using a pre-beta, wait for that.

If you're getting 40 - 45 with hairworks on High with AMD hardware I think you should consider yourself lucky.

There's a fix, if you go into the Catalyst Control centre, get The Witcher 3.exe and change tessallation from 64x to 8x the hair looks the same, but WAY less perfomance loss, and I get around the same performance with it of so...

I'll have to give that a try, although my video hardware isn't as good as yours.

Tell me, may be someone knows, why AMD is practically not involved in game development, as it makes "green company"? The Witcher 3 is one of the most anticipated games of this year (maybe not only this year!), But they ignored this fact, at least nothing indicates the presence of "red programmers" in the game.
Although they have their own "hair technology", at least!
Not to mention about the release of the drivers, which is simply awful. Every four-six months, almost. Even for this game they still have nothing. Zero. At least on the official page still 15.4 beta.
Hallelujah!!!

For your information: AMD delivers very good performance in The Witcher 3, even without a special release driver. What actually needs fixing is the performance of Nvidia's GTX 700 series cards.
