A Google search showed some hits, but most of them weren't answered, let alone solved, so I figure my try might end up the same way, but I'm gonna give it a shot.

Since yesterday my action log messages are gone. No text about picking things up or dealing damage or receiving EXP at all. I tried toggling it off and on again in the options, to no avail.
It's really hard to tell if that happened in the past already, since I'm usually not paying much attention to these messages, but now that they're gone, I want them back. ;)

Only cause, apart from just being a bug hassling players from time to time, I can think of is this mod I've installed.

Except for that, the game is completely vanilla.

I'd remove the mod and see if that fixes it (mods can break the game in the most bizarre ways). If it doesn't on your current save, try a fresh game (for testing purposes; don't delete your current saves).

If it's still broken, try the Verify/Repair option if you're using Galaxy.
