Same issue for me.
Played the game twice, once in 2009, once now.
The first game saves work just fine, the new ones don't get recognized. I like my second play-through better :(
Oh. And heres my post on savegames in another topic:

well just so everyone knows that if you have not saved there it wont register. although your problem may be something on your end, im not sure what, but the majority here may just have what i said.

Just a heads up. the last auto save in the witcher, for me at least, was before the ice plains. I just beat that part again and saved afterwards and i can import my save now.

Just says you have no Witcher 1 saves to import and Im not allowed to direct them to look on that hard drive!
Kinda annoying but minor in the grand scheme of things

I had to play the game to the end credits once more before witcher 2 recognised the savegame. Fortunately it was a save immediately after the final battle so I basically only had to walk a few steps and start a convo with Dande.
Once I ddi that I just ended the credits, opened witcher 2 and it recognised the save.
Couldn't see any difference in the save game file though. Maybe it's a registry thing?

Had problems here too. Finally found the save game right before you meet the Champion and get teleported into the Frozen Plains. Immediately I save, exited and loaded #2.
Worked like a champ!
