I hate playing games that can be completed in one day... the most enjoyable part about the Witcher 2 is that it keeps you busy for ages and can be replayed completely differently! I really love long games and this kinda reminds me of a highly advanced version of Thief Deadly Shadows which is one of my all time favourites! I actually wish theyd bring a new Thief game out that is similar to this...

Just thought i'd share that! :)
TW2 is really a brilliant RPG with great replay value for sure , but to say it keeps you busy for ages is going too far IMO , as it is clearly the shortest true RPG i've ever played , i finished it in one day the first time i got it , although i still love the game in my 5th playthrough ;)

If you compare with the money-grabbing short games like COD modern warfare which finishes in 5 hours or many Ubisoft games , then yes , TW2 is awfully long , but that's taking extreme examples of games where the devs or editor's objective is really to make as much money possible with the minimum efforts and time invested , so sadly as long as people are naive enough to buy them , the "standards" for a game's length go shorter and shorter in the mind of people because they are influenced by mediocrity all around them

However if you compare TW2 to other RPG's of these last 10 years , it's actually quite short (very short in fact , TW2 finishes in 20-30 hours , TW1 was double that figure , Morrowind was nearly 10 times that figure for instance if you did all quests etc )

Hence why many people hope for an expansion ad why the Chapter 3 feels so short and rushed with only 1 "real" side quests (gargoyle contract ) and hence why so many features of the TW1 were not done in TW2 , probably because porting to consoles took a lot of Dev time and CD projekt team is not a big team like bethesda or other larger/richer dev teams

Did you play the demo? Or did you play Saviour of Queens?
I know there is no demo, but I also know there is no way to play the game as an RPG in a day. You'd have to not listen to any of the dialogs, not do any of the side quests and not do a lot of fighting or playing at all.
I know that I am a slow player, savoring a game for a while, but I know I am not the only one who took a month for one playthrough.

But... I'm curious: what drives you to pay money for a game and rush through it, not looking left and right (it's very beautiful there) and probably not caring about the story at all?

~°~

I like it how the game actually gets me to shut it down and think on a decision I have to make, while doing something else or even sleep over it.

Unlike any other game, in TW2 I walk most of the time, instead of running, to admire all the wonderful details all around me, immersing myself in the environment.

And I love to search every nook and cranny, because there are secrets to be found everywhere. You just know, if you happen upon an Arachas, someone else must've been here before, who maybe was not as lucky and left some cool stuff... :)
I "rushed"it through in my first playthrough because i was hooked by the Main story quest , so i really wanted to see the end of it before sleeping , it's the kind of frenesy that happens to me when i first get a great game and the story is so good that you want to go as far as possible the first day you play it (happened for GTA4 too , knowing that the replay value was high anyway ) :)

Later on , i took my time more ( in my 2nd, 3rd , 4th playthroughs ) in order to get more details on the story and get more playing time in Chapter 1 which i find the most refined and polished . now i'm in my 5th playthrough (probably going to finish it tonight ) , tried a lot of possible builds and saw almost all the possible endings (via loading game saves before important decisions in act3 ) and i think i know the game by heart now , i have all achievements too except 1 , the insane mode :)

But yeah , the first time i played i only did the main quest , and never reloaded after making choices . I admit i never did that in sandbox RPG like bethesda's because the story isn't as good , and most of the fun comes from wandering the world and leveling up /hunting for objects :)

TW2 was too short. I know in today's age and with all the ADD ADHD kids a game almost has to be short to get them to finish it. But compared to other cRPG's this one was on the lite side as far as time is concerned.

Before you flame me let me say that I really liked the game. I just felt that it was way too short especially compared to other cRPG's.

I really enjoyed it and took a full month to finish my first run. But I agree it's too short from this perspective:

as many others have stated, Chapter 3 seemed rushed. I got the feeling they'd planned a lot more for that chapter and cut it short fro release. If ti had been as long as I got the feeling they wanted it to be, I'm betting the game wouldn't have felt too short at all.

Still though, the game does have a lot of hours of play time and is very, very good.

I agree. And I read at least two reviews that basically said that it was rushed for release and they ran out of time or money so had to cut the chapter short.

Ah, I haven't seen anything like that. As noted, just a feeling I got. Good to know my spidey sense still works sometimes. :p
I love the scabbards, and the armor , all the costumes Geralt and Triss wear. They are truely epic.
TW2 is really an awesome game... however it's TOO short. The maps are small and there are very little monsters or enemies to fight with. The skill tree and Geralt level is based on the story progression.

What i like to see if they can do away the 4 loading screens and make the game world SEAMLESS. Bigger world, more sidequests, more explorations, more monsters/enemies to fight with and deeper skill tree progression.

Hey I am not saying I am a pro gamer who has played most of the RPG games... I haven't even played the Wither 1 before, which I should definitely seek out after playing this one... It has actually been quite some years since I last bought a PC game, I am usually more into online text-based games that are more on the imaginitive and deeper roleplaying side... but when I saw this game on the shelf it really grabbed my attention and it happened to be my birthday at the time so I was like... lets treat meself to a bday present..., I just love games with vast landscapes to explore and I guess I have not come accross that many...

You need to play Morrowind.
It's far from a perfect game, but if you're looking to spend >100 hours exploring a world, googly-eyed the whole time, it's probably the best you'll find.
(cheap, too ... should be able to find it for around $8, or $30 if you want both the expansions as well)

One bit of advice on Morrowind. If you plan to explore just remember that the levitate spell is your best friend.

LOL, You don't play the game as much as you play a part in the game, of which the devs succeeded!
Compared to TW1 its definitely shorter (5 vs 3 chapters minus pro and epi). But im thinking thats probably due to the new game engine they were working on aswell. Who knows maybe TW3 will have alot more to it now they got a perfectly good engine!.

Altho i didnt really "feel" chapter 3 in TW2 was a chapter per say, kinda to short imo.

Either way, TW2 is still a fantastic experience. =)
