heres what i like

-the way you can chain attacks its really badass

-use of traps. set one up and lure.

-all signs are useful now.

what i dont like

-block chained to vigor

-potion s not lasting long

-no ard quick change

- lack of styles (i loved this in the last game)

- only rolling...

-inability to defend against more then 1 person at the start

-low vigor

but hey thats just my opinion

rivo101: Anyone else here abit unsatisfied with the combat in this game?

Im not complaining here, but i dont find any enjoyment out of it, due t the fact the normal difficulty is way to hard especially at the early stage of the game, there were some parts where i was facing 15+ goblins in a cave.

The damage dealt to monsters is abit satisfactory (ending up slashing then rolling away alot)

I also feel the combat should be quicker and more brutal (dealing dmg to enemies) and it would be great if gerald could do front flips and back flips to evade like in witcher 1 not just a barrel roll:(

Anyone else agree of am i just nit picking here?
You're not alone, I find the fact that the controls don't react immediately to be incredibly frustrating at times. Combat feels really clunky because of this.
Oh man!!!!! The best combat in an RPG that I have ever played and you gals complain.:(

I started with the game on hard and can tell you that its exactly as the devs intended...easy to learn hard to master!!!:) They tried to emulate Demon Souls and succeeded. Please leave the hard combat for us and just play the game on easy. You gals ruin another developers ideology for the rest of us and we come looking for you.

For the person that says you target a person far away and miss the enemy standing next to you.Thats the beauty of this system where it is hard to get really good and be a killer combatant.Practice and more practice.Try aiming your view directly on the enemy you wanna attack.Works for me.
I don't know if its just me or what. But I am playing the game at a steady 60 FPS. No trouble with the combat, is it challenging... yes. And because its a challenge, when you achieve victory its a helluva a lot more rewarding.

This is not a console game, you need 60 FPS to get the maximum enjoyment out of the title.

Also the combat is very tactical. You must plan ahead, not simply rush in like a moron. Use your potions, oils, bombs, trophies, enhancements, etc... Setup traps, cast signs, use fast strike and strong strike when appropriate. Chain attacks together for more damage.

Blocking is a useful tool.

Kill the weak first, the strong last. Force your enemies to come to you, preferably by using the environment to your advantage (i.e funneling them towards you). Think before you act, this is not diablo!

Exactly, I think just by removing that ~1 second pause geralt does after attacking would help immensely. I thought my keyboard was malfunctioning when I was holding down a movement key and watched as poor geralt repeatedly got killed while standing still after attacking.

Thanks for bleeding for those learning the combat dynamics!!

-not a console game (it certainly has all the elements of a console) If this was really designed for a pc there would utilize the keyboard more, expand the quickslots and give us back the strong, quick, group sword options or at least make it better in this itiration of the game.

Its like a whole new Dev took over!!
Combat seems good to me, challenging but in a way that I feel like can be overcome through learning the system better. Most of what I'm not digging in this game are interface changes.
At first i did not liked the combat, i thought i was too hard and sloppy.

But i've completely changed my mind. I think i very realistic in the sense that if you go head on against 3 enemies you will get raped if you dont use the skills that a witcher has accordingly.

The only thing that botters me is the parry. I think it would be nice if each parry would spend only half a vigor bar instead of one. Im only level 6 now, im sure in later levels you will have more skills and training to feel a superior mutant against inferior humans.

I also like the fact that combat is so challenging , i feel that it keeps the game from becoming dull from time to time.

I believe if you are facing a weaker enemy parry only costs half a bar, but a stronger enemy the whole bar. Also remember that each sword has different effects and stats. Some help with blocking more than others.

emperorcleon: kindly RTFM. I think the combat is pretty engaging.

And ppl this is an rpg, not an action game. If you dont know it already, RPGs have leveling system. Once u level up, it shouldnt be a problem.

I struggled in ME1 at first, but when I leveled, it was fun
Yes, but the problem is that the game sends 6 scoiatel at you AT ONCE on level 6. How much can we level on lvl6? I really do not find it funny running around like idiot waiting for my health to het better even a bit.
When I first was playing the game I thought the combat was awful. It was also because I was getting low fps so what I did was delayed. Then when I installed the new nvidia beta patch, that all changed.

With 60 fps the combat is fantastic. I can take on hordes of enemies no problem. It also feels a lot more fluid then the Witcher 1 combat system. In the Witcher 1, I used about 2 signs throughout the entire game, I find myself using all of them in this one. Though Quen is my favorite since essentially I can take a couple of free hits without being penalized.

Honestly for most fights with human like enemies in the game and even big monsters, just try and get behind them and that will make all your fights quick and easy. I think blocking in this game is a waste of time, since the opening it creates really doesn't match the damage you'd be doing with some strong attacks from behind.

Once you invest in counter attacking skills, blocking is very useful.
Having direct control of every one of Geralt's actions is great. I despised the Witcher 1 combat, and this hack and slash approach is one heck of significant change. It's not a mindless button clicker and being aware of enemy animations is crucial.

I think the least dexterous of us could try playing in easy and not complain as much :P
-explore and get new weapons. Rusty sword only does 6-10 damage.
-Use light attack most of the time
-Heavy attacks are slow. Dont use it when there are lot of enemies around
-When entering combat, stun (aard or igni) armored or shielded enemies. Then finish of light enemies.
-Quen is ur friend. Put it on when engaging more than 2 enemies
-Rolling is also ur friend. Dont be greedy. Do 1 or 2 light strikes and roll away.
-Ur best bet is to scatter opponest. Use yardin to do than
-Play in easy difficulty. Game gets easier from chapter 1

So the only "combat rpg" you ever played I presume ?
