I killed about 20 wraiths before she finished her ritual. this quest is meant for the end of chap 1. that is why the ingredients can only be gathered till you almost finish chap 1.

Peetz: Better update to 1.2, because you can now buy everything you need.

coastie65: The retail disk version won't update. I have been playing it without the 1.1 or 1.2 patches and it does fine, I got all the DLC stuff. Al you get with the retail version is the Invalid or Incomplete message. They have really got things screwed up this time. As I said, it's playable without the patches and seems to be fine. The next play through I'll whack the Troll and get his tongue and do the ritual. I guess i could also purchase a digital download of the game which would patch, but being retired I need to watch the money.
Coastie -

There's been a lot of fixes from the retail release, so you really should update. The post above gives a link to issues that you may have (especially since you say you have installed all the DLC stuff).

Go here to get the International version of the 1.1 Patch - http://en.thewitcher.com/patch/

Open up your game folder, and in the CookedPC folder move out the Troll.dzip file to somewhere else, then see if your installation won't update to 1.1

If that doesn't work, move out all the DLC .dzip files from that folder somewhere else and try again. If you have mods in place, move them out if this doesn't work.

If you succeed in updating to 1.1, then it should try to automatically update to 1.2

Let us know how you get on.

filthymcnasty: What does the amulet do, after the curse is removed?
avatar
PrayForDeath: Gives 1 hp (vitality) regen during combat, and does not need to be equipped.
It only gives +1 regen out of combat but if things changed with 1.2, i don't know as i didn't check the amulet after patching to 1.2.

PrayForDeath: You should take a look at this http://www.gog.com/en/forum/the_witcher_2/common_solutions_to_problems_with_after_installing_patch_1_2

You should be able to install the patches just fine once you follow all the instructions in that link.
I have been playing with it. Got a bit miffed and booted into Vista and it installed nice and clean with all the patches ( after installing the drivers for the new card that I put in ). Rebooted back into Windows 7 and uninstalled the thing. kept the save files ( of course ) and got rid of everything else. I had to go in and manually delete a bunch of DLC files I had downloaded. Once I did that, I reinstalled it and it went fine including all the patches.

coastie65: I kinda hit a dead end with that one. I helped the troll, so, no troll tongue and I have everything else needed. Couldn't get the Female head as I had completed the dice quest before this. I remember there was something similar to this in Act IV of the first game.
Patch 1.2 makes the tongue available in the best stores!

Eoghain: Second is... does Anezka usually take this long to finish her ritual? Or is this just a bug in my particular copy?
I've finished it many times now, in Hard and Insane. If she breaks the ritual and keeps watching the fight, it will never end. Had the same problem on my first run.

Keep the fight contained around those two pilars and don't go too far from it or the wraiths will go near Anezka and interrupt the ritual. Filling the area with traps before talking to her in front of the shrine may help with the first waves. I always have to kill some 10 wraiths before she calls it complete. I use only Quen and Axii. Making them fight among themselves is a lot safer! Red Haze bombs (axii effect) and Dancing Star (fire) also work well. When I go with swords I do 1 or 2 strikes and roll away as fast as I can. Finished it on Insane w/out ever getting injured!

I have a video of my fist time in Hard... it was a lot harder. Experience with the game is a valuable weapon! =)

Augur: May be so. BTW the wraiths don't bother Agniezka at all. They go back to the center of the clearing, but don't go bother her. I think the trigger for her to finish is a certain amount of wraiths killed. But I do recomend not leaving the clearing, meaning don't go past the statues at the limits of the clearing. Don't even go till the treeline, because you don't really need it. The leash is much shorter. I almost never use Axii except for persuasion, cause it almost never works. I have tried it on endregas, nekkers and some other enemies. No such luck. I suppose you can only target "intelligent" beings, but anyway I can't say I use the sign. Seems I get more use of the three other signs.

gig45: You do realize you have to keep pressing the cast button for several seconds before the creature get's charmed? I ask because i played twice on hard now, and i get much better results with axii, especially against wraiths (90% success rate against wraiths, non-upgrade)
Thankyou. This explains why i gave up on axii .... looking forward to trying it in my next playthrough :)

Actually, we need only press it once (for Axii). Geralt will remain on the cast animation for a while but we do not need to keep pressing the button. The problem with Axii is that if target is not in range, it will consume vigor, Geralt will suffer a kick back and the enemy is still coming towards us! Better to use Axii only when enemy is in range! =)

deeviusnz: What quest is this? I must have missed it....

eCos: the quest is melitele's heart. you know newboy at foltest's camp, inquiring about a protective amulet. if you convince him that the amulet is cursed, he gives it to you. after that, during chapter 1, you can ask about the amulet to the witch anezka in lobinden. she than confirms that it is in fact cursed, and tells how to remove it.
Really? when I played she just offered to buy it off me, so I sold it to her.... no mention of removing a curse or anything from what I can remember...

You had to refuse, then ask her again why she's so interested. If the persuasion attempt fails the first time it might work the second time and she'll instead of calling your bluff and saying "I know what you witchers are like, always travelling etc." she'll say "I see your point." Then if you dig further she'll tell you about the amulet.
Guess I 'll back up to and old save as someone said that you could buy a Troll's Tongue after the game was patched ( I sided with and helped the troll ). I didn't do the the troll quest until after defeating the Kayran. I have moved into Chapter 2, but just got there. I screwed up any way as I relaized I got a key from Loredo and didn't go to his place to see what it may fit before I left Flotsam.

Sure, you can buy Troll's tongue - or just go through the Troll quest, defeat Dimitri and get the female Troll head from Sendler, by beating him at poker.

If you're going back, don't forget to stock up on supplies. You can never have enough diamond dust for making Diamond Enhancements, or Silver Ore... amongst some other things that will be needed in Act3.

Ugh. I screwed the poker thing up as I completed it before I started the troll quest. Never could find anybody selling a Troll tongue, so sold the pendant for 200 orens and moved on. Yeah I am aware of that stuff. I am good on Diamond dust, but always seem to be short of silver ore.
