I am almost to the end of act 1, I think I'll go with the Scoi'tael for 2 reasons:

1 - Whilst I do not agree with their tactics, and the reasons behind their struggle can never justify nor vindicate the murder of innocents, the question I ask myself is, would the Scoi'tael ever have existed if not for the intolerance and blind racism of the humans? (reap what you sow kind of thing)

2 - There is no neutral path, and to me the fight for freedom from oppression, injustice and racial hatred is a much more noble cause than fighting "terrorists" that are a direct result of aforementioned intolerance/hatred (see above)

This is just my own personal moral standpoint... Given the choice I would remain completely neutral as I don't agree with either side really (as stated)... I cannot condone murder of innocents, nor can I condone oppression and injustice bred by racial prejudice (or for any other reason). Neither case can ever be justified.

Having said that, I'll probably side with the oppressors on the second play through.
I am still not at the end of Chapter 1 so have this decision ahead of me (my husband had a rare few days off work and I had been promising him a CIV 4 hotseat tournament for ages so I had to put this game down for a while - marriages need nurturing even if that involves nuking each other from orbit in a strategy game!)

But having had a few days to think about it I still cannot decide! I will replay and eventually do both of course, but my first playthrough is always a little special and the choices I make the first time I play a game are the ones I tend to hold as being most important when it comes to the next in the series. On that basis I ought to side with the non-humans but I also kind of like some of the blue stripes and have a bit of respect for Ves :/

I've said it a million times and I'll say it a million more. You haven't played the game until you've played both sides, regardless of your affections for one side over the other. ;p They really complement each other that well (sadly, too spoilerific if I was to give examples). It's not like the first game where you essentially played the same game while replacing a few npcs dependent on your choice. This time around you're playing half of the story by choosing a side, and need to play the other side to get the full story.

I can't even really comment on your personal reasons for choosing one side over another as that'd be spoilerific as well. I can say that I enjoyed both, and the second side I choose was really fun in the amount of details I realized would have gone over my head had I played that side first, showing just how well the two sides complement each other.
