After so many, many years of being basically shat on by the powers that be, we're finally getting a proper classification system starting Jan 1st, 2013.

Can I assume the installer for TW2EE will be replaced with the version everyone else gets once this date passes? I like the idea of celebrating this victory by downloading a proper copy of this game and playing the hell out of it in the way it intended next year.
Congradulations fellow gamers from down under! It's great that another country's government finally realized that games can be for adults. I wonder if companies will be able to submit their games for rating before the implementation date. Otherwise you may have to wait a while longer.

If you want to play The Witcher 2 the way it's intended to be played, there's always the un-Australian mod (or whatever it's called) that'll fix the problem lickety split.

Oh, yes I know about that, but with having too much to play already, and the enormous filesize, I've been holding off downloading TW2EE. Really, it's about having things feel "right", the simple idea of owning a copy that hasn't been censored in the first place, a vindication if you will after all the BS my government has put me through.
I agree with you wholeheartedly. I just bought Witchers 1 & 2 because of the sale on today. It was only after I paid my money and saw the (AU) at the end of Witcher 2's name that I remembered that our copy had been censored to appease the ultra conservative nut bags in our country.

I find it incredibly distasteful knowing that my copy of the game is different from everyone else's just because some idiot on our ratings board thought that the idea of consensual sex between adults was somehow abhorrent. God I can't wait for that R18 classification to come in next year.

I've already downloaded the UnAustralian patch, but it's just not the same knowing that I have to take that extra step. I really hope that CD Projekt/GOG do uncensored the game themselves when the rating comes into effect. Get that (AU) text off of my game!!
I'm pretty sure they'll uncensor the game for you Aussies if it does not cost an outragious fee to re-certify the game or something like that.
At least I think that GOG will want to get rid of the need to diffentiate between users from different countries, if only to have less complexity in their download portal code. And it seems like they hate GeoIP or any other form of locating their users, and will want to use it as less as legally possible.

Edit: Oh and congratulations for getting a better rating system. I'm from Germany so I can symphasize with people only getting censored games and movies or not being able to obtain some of them legally at all.

I am an Aussie.

Isn't it funny how they spend YEARS debating whether to change the classification system and that this is considered a job. Like just sitting around ho-humming about drivel is "productive".

Why do we have to wait untill next year, is there some work that has to be done ...file a piece of paper ..WHAT. WHY can it not change tomorrow ..so that they can spend another 6 months doing nothing!!!!

I don't think it was really spending years debating as it was the other attorney-generals trying to convince that infernal cuntface that is Michael Atkinson to just allow the damn thing to pass already.

That said, it kind of gives me pleasure that such censorship is so easily circumvented with a mod that takes less time to install than a game of Minesweeper. Hell, even the console players can get around it with a mod chip and an import. It's a lot more inconvenient, but its still a nice big "fuck you" to all those computer illiterate twats who think censorship has even the slightest chance of success in this post-internet world we all live in.

Computer illiterate control freaks have no chance in the information age. Knowledge is power.
Very nice, the internet has also allowed us to get games never released in australia. It's like, you could have my money but licensing and other such nonsense prevent you from getting said money ...good luck with that.

I feel better, good post!
