Hmmmm, Who uses DX10? XP is DX9 and both Vista and Windows 7 are DX 11 ( Vista has been upgraded to DX11 from 10).
Seeing as how they are probably doing a console version, it would make it easier on them just to keep it DX9.
DX10 would be pointless but DX11 can bring a huge visual improvement at little cost to performance. This game was obvioulsy designed with consoles in mind so that's probably why it's DX9.

monstermax20: Well, before posting this i've been investigating a little bit and i can safely say that the RED Engine is a DX9 based engine. Which is quite awesome in an on itself by the way it looks.
(for those who need proof about it: http://polygamia.pl/Polygamia/1,96455,9662041,Wiedzmin_2_na_konsolach___to_pewne.html?bo=1, use google translate)

Having said that: Can PC gamers expect a DX10/11 patch coming someday before Judgement Day? :P
I know that a lot of you will say that fixing what's broken comes first and i totally agree, but think for a second. Performance on fairly new hardware is one of the issues PC people are experiencing, so it might be a not-so-bad idea to develop a DX11 patch for the game in order to smooth out some of those issues.
Just sayin'

Aaden: Using DX11 properly is not so much a matter of "patching" anything than it is a matter of re-writing the engine. You'd have to put a vast amount of effort in it.
I can't imagine they're going to do that. Lately, Creative Assembly co-developed Shogun 2: Total War DX11 along with the DX9-version and released a 'patch' which implemented it - therefore probably your idea of simply patching it in. If you compare it to DX9 I'd say it's hardly worth the effort to start over AFTER finishing the DX9-engine and -game. I guess it would take months upon months - for (to be realistic here, although I like the new DX11 features) pretty minor improvements.

Also, a DX10-patch would be totally pointless, as DX10 does have hardly any new features and was only supposed to make certain things easier for the devs - which didn't catch on either due to the need of using DX9 anyways for XBox 360.
you are definately right about the effort and the difficult implementation. But the actual visual difference is there. Shogun 2 vanilla vs the dx11 version is a total new experience. Both the visuals and the performance were dramatically improved by this patch. I really hope CD Red considers making an enhanced version of this game like they did with the witcher 1. I'd even pay for this.

DX11 is likely to be laggier so I do not mind the wait lol.

ever tried playing wow in dx9 and dx11? It's doesn't have any visual improvements, but dx11 on pc's that fully support it has almost 2-3 times better performance than dx9. Most of DX11 new features were meant for optimisation purposes, not for visual improvement. For example, GPU parallel processing (you know, before DX11 it wasn't supported, and it's GREAT boost for performance if used right), DirectCompute (computations on gpu - and gpu is thousand times better in fp operations than cpu).
