I hate these kind of posts but I don't want to drop 50 bucks on something I can't play for quite a while because of a poor rig.

2.2GHz processor, will be upgrading shortly to 2.8
9800GT 512 MB
4GB ram

I don't care about maxing everything, more like no shadows/reflections
everything or almost everything on medium.

I know its not a gaming rig, but if there is a chance I could pull about 30fps in most places it would be great. Thanks.

What kind of processor?

You might be able to run it on low to medium, no higher.

AMD sempron LE-1250 currently

but as soon as I start getting my paychecks and get some cash inflow I was thinking of the AMD sempron 145 2.8 GHz

low to medium works for me as long as it's not too choppy. thanks.

Uhm. You're going to want a dual core processor.

What is your motherboard and what is your budget. You wont go very far with the one you have now I'm afraid.

Your graphics card is barely above reccomended specs, your ram is fine, but that cpu...

Both of those CPUs are extremely old at this point. You want at least a 2.2 or 2.8 GHz dual core processor.

It looks like that processor you're looking to upgrade to is a AM3 socket. Can your mobo handle that? (it'd have to be an AM2+ to handle either of those CPUs so you might be good...)

If you're going to upgrade, and your motherboard can handle AM3, then I suggest this instead:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103916&cm_re=am3-_-19-103-916-_-Product

It's four cores, but the speed, it's a phenom 2, and it's slightly stronger than the CPU I have.

With this you should be okay on low-medium, but not with the one you have and not with the one you want to upgrade to.

Motherboard is old...Asus M2N68-LA (Ivy8-GL6) socket type AM2

can handle any sempron regardless of socket as AM3 is backwards compatible with sempron.

Athalon 64 up to 3800+

Athalon 64 X2 with dual core up to 4800+

Budget is low at the moment, but I'm starting work for the summer, so its just a matter of waiting longer to get the money together.

EDIT: actually found this
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7026019&CatId=3496

a bit more expensive but I think am2+ works with am2...I'll be sure to find out before purchasing. Seems close to the one you suggesting

Thanks for your help.

That motherboard seems to support phenom but doesn't say anything about phenom II.

I'm not 100% sure on if phenom 2 will work in that motherboard, so if you do go with that cpu, make sure you can return it just in case it doesn't work with the mobo.

That's a good processor though.
