Sometimes it passes, sometimes it fails, but what exactly determines the difficulty check of Persuade and Intimidate? Is there a visual cue I'm missing?

I find it odd that my Geralt just failed to Intimidate an aging commoner.

Intimidation, Persuasion, and Axii.
I'd like to know too, for all three of those. They look like they might be related to the three development trees.
Based on my experience with getting a new version of the Conversational Axii ability almost every time I use it, I suspect you become better with it as you do it.

So if you want to be a silver-tongued bastard, persuade all the time. If you want to mindrape poor stormtroopers, use force persuade/axii. etc

Either that, or the giving of that ability is bugged as hell.

I've had the very same experience, so +1 to that theory.

You can see the level you're at in persuasion, etc by hitting C, then enter, then clicking on the third button on the top-right of the screen.
I've got all three at level 3.Can it go higher?

I don't think so. I'm near the end of the game, having used each one whenever they were available, and they're still at level 3. Seems like that may just be the max level for those skills.
I'n both my play throughs i've always done allot of intimidation and i've never lost a single attempt, after reading this thread i discovered that they have a level and looking at what my lvl is three quarters of the way through act 1 iboth my intimidate and persuade is on 3, even though i havent persuaded once, which is apparently the highest. i think maybe something needs to be done about intimidation/persuasion as at the moment it seems far too easy.

Hoping for a persuasion system similar in difficulty as DE: HR? :P
Not sure how it would be implemented in Witcher World though, granted I do love how carefuly one has to be in regards to paying attention to the convo and dialogue choices.
