Hello everyone,

as the title suggests, I'm looking for recommendations regarding the spoken language in The Witcher 2. Several entries here suggest the Polish version, yet quite a few of them advised this before the game was even available. No surprise that there's some bias towards the "original" language.
Now the game is out for a week, surely some more people can share their impressions of the various language options by now. I'm especially interested in the quality of the English, French and Polish dubbing, which one fits the characters best and sets a superiour mood?

One playthrough with German voices lies behind me, which was solid, but a bit of a mixed bag. Some excellent work using antiquated and (very) colloquial language, sadly also some exceptions on the negative side. It certainly did not depreciate the fantastic experience, the game is a most excellent one.

Thanks in advance for any interesting input.
Well I really do like Polish Geralt. Letho was kinda meh tho. I played prologue in English and then switched to Polish halfway into chapter 1. And when I met Letho towards the end of chapter 1 I was disappointed by his voice. The rest seemed pretty solid and I'm not switching back to English. :)
If you choose the Polish version, for the love of Melitele don't use the words you learn in a regular conversation should you meet a Pole ;-)

I really can't say since I have no comparison with other language versions. But Jacek Rozenek does a wonderful job as Geralt, Triss is just the perfect mix between woman&girl, Zoltan and Dandelion are just pure entertainment, and I am especially fond of Roche. All the ings have a regal feel, Iorveth's a little psycho, and as for Letho and Detmold, those two are controversial - there's a cleas contrast between how you expect them to sound, and who was chosen. But in case of the Kingslayer that's to point out he's not just a blunt lubering mass of murerous meat, and Detmold... is just unsettling in the way you'd never expect sir Anthony Hopkins to play Lecter if you'v never seen "Silence..." before. Of course I'm not comparing quality here - nobody in the cast is half as good as sir Tony, but in general you can hear the best voice actors Poland has to offer, since the game was a Big Deal here =)

Yes, Polish voices are very good with maybe two exceptions.
I didn't like Saskia at all - she speaks like if she had cold and running nose.
Letho's voice is ok but in English version I think it fits him better.

I think it is based on your taste. I normaly watch movies and play games in their original language even though in germany the voiceovers are quite well done.

I'm simple sensitive about the atmosphere and language is a great factor for me.
I like Triss voice in English much more than Polish, because she sound more womanly in English. I like Polish language but sometime when there are more than 3 lines in dialog, i can't catch up with the subtitles. It is like distraction.
I refuse to play in English simple because of the fact that Triss sounds like my 14 year old sister, what the hell CDPR? You guys had the perfect voice for Triss in W1 why switch?

well your sister must sound extremely mature for her age.
Nope, Triss just sounds like a 14 year old girl.
Dear Friends

There is nothing better then the original in any category of life.
Original is original is the best of the best and I think in the time there are subtitles, you all should choose original audio + your prefer subtitles. Polish language is very detail and there are lots of cases that cannot be substituted by any other language.

If I play English origin game I always choose English + Polish subtitles, even if there is Polish VO.

Best regards.

PS. I have heard every game with Polish VO, and trust me all of them I will give 3/7, where The Witcher is 7/7.

Sincerely

I am Polish so obviously I play with Polish VO and I thing it is great (with some minor flaws). If I was not Polish, I would still play with Polish VO.

Oh shit, you've ruined Letho for me. I didn't recognize the guy, and now... let's just say that while he did play many tough guys in action movies, and dramas he's most known for quite comedic roles (still tough guys) especially this:

Edit: I'll post a YT link with the (in)famous sweater shirt as soon as I transcribe and translate the dialogue :D

But Metal Gear Solid series has done really good at English voice-over although it is Japanese game,
They are a bit similar, letho and the guy thad dubs him
Yes, thay are. BTW new Geralt seems to have a jawline like Tomek Gop's ;-)

Here it is, the sweater scene:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MK2i8aVF_4Q

Translation (role of Pear played by our Letho):
Fred: Where did you find that sweater, a new fashion catalogue perhaps?

Pear: It was a gift.

Fred: Maybe you don't realize what you're wearing. Either that, or you know how stupid it is, but you just won't acknowledge it.

Pear: Don't know what you're talking 'bout man. You want to tell me something, speak so that I can understand ya.

Fred: I'm talking about that thing you're wearing. Did you snatch it from charity? Did your dog eat it and puke it back to you? I'd like to get to know the story behind that sweater. They gave us similar to wear down in workshop class when I was in technical colledge.

Pear: Keep on diggin' Jack. Keep on diggin'.*pause* Fred, why the fuck do you keep picking at my sweater?

Fred: Just look at me. See how I'm dressed? Dou you know how much I gave for just the jacket? 1500 bucks.

Pear: So what, you want me to take a picture of ya?

Fred: No, Pear. I bought this outfit for occasions such as this one. I've paid 1500 bucks so that the guy I'm about to waste remembers well how I look. So that when he reaches the Pearly Gates, he can tell all the other angels he was popped by a classy guy, get that? And you in your damn sweater, you look like hick. Like a bloody Pikey that's cleaning my car window when I stop at the lights. When the guy you waste tells those up there how you look, all the angels' sphincters will give in because of the laughter and we'll have a REAL shitstorm down here.

Pear: You tell funny stories...

Fred: Yeah, like you'd care. Nobody'll notice all the shit on this sweater, but think about me.

Pear: Funny. Reeeaaal funny... *giggles*

Fred: You giggle like a swine with all that shit you're smoking. *cocks gun* You finished? Then pay attention. I'll give you one last chance. See this coin? I'll toss you. Tails - you win, I let you live. Heads - you loose, I get to kill you. *tosses*

*shots are fired*

Pear: This sweater may be lame, but that's how it's supposed to be. Because I don't give a shit what the guy I'm about to waste thinks. And I don't see what fucking difference it makes, offing someone with class. Also, I don't believe in angels, re..reincarnation, underwater civilizations, or Santa. But I know one thing; when you shoot any guy at point blank, he'll splatter all over you'r 3K suit.

*shoots*

And you'd never understand this sweater's story anyway.
Talk about bad-ass! ;-)
