I was playing the game in 4k on a 1080ti and recently got into act three. I loaded the game today and noticed that the graphics were off.

I went into the settings and saw that various settings were lowered, which I thought was strange. I set everything back as high as possible, and then updated the geforce driver to 417.01.

Now no matter what I do, the game is choppy with the screen going black every so many seconds. When it gets to the menu screen, there are no animations and I can't select anything.

I have tried changing settings and even reinstalling the game. I plan on installing an older driver to see if that fixes the issue.

EDIT: I rolled back to 385.69, and the game now loads as it should, with all graphics settings where they are supposed to be. I had originally used 385.69 because nvidia's drivers after that release made Elex stutter every few seconds (stutter confirmed in latest driver release, so they keep breaking games.)

I don't know what nvidia's problem is.

I guess Nvidia doesn't care much about driver optimization for older titles. New releases have priority in testing. If some older games suffer - tough luck. What more, there are multiple reports that the performance of Pascal graphics cards decrease on 400 series drivers even in the newer games. All of the performance upgrade goes for the RTX cards.
I think that they have poor business practices.

I don't understand how a new driver can break a game like The Witcher 2 so bad. The Witcher 1 and 3 ran great with the new driver. In fact, the only game tested not to work was W2.

People had problems with The Witcher 3 as well on some 400 series drivers, so it's not limited to the second game. As I can understand problems with older games on new drivers, I don't understand problems with such a renown title as The Witcher 3.
