So I went on the neogaf forums, where they have suggestions for improving laptop performance on the Witcher 2 (see post here: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=27892627&postcount=452), one of the first steps is to find ATi 11.4 drivers, but I've checked everywhere and cant find them :/. I also find it unfair that (from what I heard), the GoG witcher2.exe files allows smoother performance than the file that comes with the physical copy. Is there any way I can obtain this exe legally?

Whoever told you that is an idiot. The GoG version patches out the DRM, but once you register the physical copy the two are practically identical. It doesn't check for an internet connection or anything like that once it loads from that point on, so there's absolutely no reason for that to be true.

I thought the same thing too, but some people are swearing that it works :/ and I can't find this damn Catalyst Suite 11.4 anywhere
For a list of older drivers, head here:

I just finished the game using the 11.4 drivers, and it ran incredibly well with them.

I think thats absurd!! from what I gleaned if there is an issue its solvable by shutting off your internet connection, but most have run the game without the laucher (I hope I'm right with that statement..

Go <span class="bold">here</span> and choose your OS, then you can click the "Previous Drivers" link to get older versions. That is unless your laptop is from a manufacturer that requires custom drivers.

The only way they would be able to tell is if they purchased both versions and tried to run them on the same machine. Had someone done that, it seems as though it would be more than just a rumor that someone heard from someone else.

It's far more likely that people with similar hardware drew that conclusion after someone with the GoG version got better performance, forgetting to take into account all the variables that would lead to such a thing.
First of all, I can't think of a single reason, why the DVD version should run faster in any way. It would have been very helpful if you elaborated on that.

The reason why you can't find the 11.4 drivers is probably due to the fact that 11.5 is the current version right now (11.5a hotfix, to be exact) - although you surely would have found the 11.4 version, if you had googled for it for about ten seconds. you'll find that one on the AMD/ATI page. I should add that the performance on a lot of ATI card is quite poor right now and will be adressed by AMD in the days to come (which also would have found, if you had used the search funtion of this forum)

May it would be helpful, if you could tell us your laptop's exact setup and the settings you runs witcher 2 with + the settings of your catalyst control center.

If you go here (which is where you have to go to download the 11.4 catalyst suite) you'll see that it's empty. It has nothing in the downloads or anything at all. I get downloads for all the other version but 11.4 -_-

Intel i5-450m
ATi Radeon HD 5470 (overclocked and with directx triple-buffering enabled)
4 gigs of ram
Windows 7 64 bit

I can't get more than 25 frames with EVERYTHING off the entire game at it's lowest settings, windowed, texture downscaling on high, at a low resolution (which I forgot cuz I'm currently messing with my drivers and now the launcher wont let me set it to that resolution... it was 12** X 600 is all I remember)
I guess your problem is your graphics card. A HD 5470 (a mobile version, I guess?) simply wont do the trick.

If you look here http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Graphics-Cards-Benchmark-List.844.0.html, you will find that this card is classified as
"Low-Midrange Graphics Cards
(Low-end graphics cards for users who want to play games. New games should run on these cards, but only with low details and mediocre resolution.)"

There's no way around that. Sorry lad.

Hmm strange that is the only one that doesn't work from ATI. Guru3d keeps a good selection of old files:

sigh... for the 10th time, I modded my card quie a bit so (yes I've seen that site) those specs dont apply to my card, especially when you consider that it can play Mafia 2 on high at over 40ish frames a second -_-. And, even then, my card is above the minimum requirements and gets the same fps on medium as it does on low....
I have a very similar laptop myself (i5 460, 6 gb ram, geforce 320M). This one sould be quite comparable to your overclocked machine. Still TW2 runs not really smoothly on it (with low settings).
Apart from that, overclocking your laptop's graphics card is not the best idea. The cooling system is normally designed to very specific settings. Overclocking may (but doesn't necessarily have to) reduce the lifetime of your laptop significantly.

Also, as I already mentioned, ATI cards have a general problem with the game right now, which will hopefully be solved with the next hotfix driver.

You're right lol, but I raarely overclock, I usually just leave triple buffering on. I was finally able to install 11.4 drivers and it actually does improve my framerate by about 3-5 frames >.> not much but I can't be picky in this situation.

EDIT- To add insult to injury, the Witcher 2 says my laptop is "medium" spec and sets everything to medium, right where I can't run it :/
