So I'm playing along, and I'm up to the part where I have to make my choice before leaving Flotsam, and I decide to give the Troll Trouble DCL a crack to see if it works - it does! :D

So the problem is this. I have tracked down the troll, spoken to the Lobinden elder and spoken to the Troll himself, now I need to 'speak to my friends in town' to move the quest to the next phase, but who do I speak to? I can't seem to figure it out. Is it too late for me to finish this quest?

You don't have that many friends, do you? :P

Maybe a certain dwarf who mentioned that he's been in Flotsam for quite some time is able to help you. ;)

I'm on it!
Well, if you're referring to Zoltan, he's standing out with elves in the roses area and refuses to say anything useful, and I can't see any other dwarves in town due to a certain event that occurred after the boss fight under the roses.

Hm. Looks like the quest actually can't be fulfilled anymore, as Zoltan is indeed the one you're supposed to talk to. You might try talking to Sheala de Tancarville if that's possible. Otherwise search the house of the leather tanner - maybe it's possible to skip the "find out where it is"-part.
Sile de Tanserville has seemingly left already too. I'll just backtrack to before the boss fight and eventually defeat him again once I've done it all. Thanks!
Either Zoltan or Sile can help. Most likely you did get the correct dialogue from them, but didn't pay it full attention. Unfortunately, neither of them will repeat it once they have their say.
Nope, all zoltan said was "you should speak to Iorveth" and it didnt even bring up a conversation window for it. And This is after the riot so Sile is nowhere to be seen - as far as I know. I'm gonna go back to before then :)
Having a similar problem here. I talked to the troll before I spoke with Chorab. I then went about questing for a while, killed the Kayran, yadda yadda. Finally I talk to Chorab, he tells me *about* the troll but doesn't give any useful information on how to get it to stop drinking, so I go talk to the troll again, only he won't talk anymore; just attacks me on sight. None of my "friends" have anything to say about a troll, and neither does Loredo.

I assume this quest is pretty much completely broken?
afair you had to speak to the guy who tells the stories in the little village in front of foltest. first house on the left.
I think it's because you went to far into the main plot.... you should have spoken to him before the first fight with Letho when Zoltan was still in the inn....

walkthrough guide says: first shaela, then zoltan, then that guy in the small village with the troll head on the wall in his house, he is one of the 3 dealers there.

The first time you talk to the troll he will end up fighting you but the fight will end before you kill him and you can then go after Demitri and Co.
Ah, I assumed I'd be forced to kill him. Thanks, aglynne. I'll try again on my next play-through.

you didn't actually kill him , did you ??, that would be sad. i found all the trolls in the game really funny and kind of great ;) didnt kill any one of them in all my playthroughs
