Now i longed for a new rpg that captures my imagination. I read a lot of good things about it.
As far as i understand its based on a book. I am even intrigued that it is based on polish book. I wonder how much it may differ from anglo stories.
Well only one way to find out, namely playing it.
And off i go....
Me too! I'm installing it right now. Let's see how it goes!

[EDIT] And just like that, it's DOA. "Warning - minimum system requirements not met" when I try to launch. This is a brand new machine. Just great.

[EDIT] Got it to run using the "-dontforce..." advice in the stickied thread. So I started the game, but the cut scenes were ultra-choppy, to the point of not being able to tell what was going on. When combat finally started, I can't seem to make him swing the sword... I keep clicking, and nothing happens... and then the game crashed to desktop.

Not thrilled about the $10 so far, let me tell you.

Yeah, ok, here are my impressions:

The controls of this game make it nearly impossible. The overhead camera angles are uncontrollable - they seem to constantly point at a wall or in the wrong direction, and I couldn't find a way to change it. Clicking on the ground to move just isn't an option when you're surrounded by bad guys.

So I switched the the "over the shoulder" camera... but it jumps around so much, and is so choppy, that there's no way to focus on anything. You're supposed to string together combinations of hits, but because the camera is constantly jumping and moving, there's no way to keep the cursor on a mob. I got to the Savolla fight, and he cleaned the floor with me, because I just couldn't keep the camera still enough to keep my cursor on him. And since when the cursor isn't on top of a mob, it literally disappears, it's very difficult to find where it is as the picture bounces and rolls.

What am I doing wrong here? Because so far, this is just unplayable.
Personally I prefer the over the shoulder mode and I consider it quite playable.

First, the choppy cutscene problem is mentioned in the sticky thread too. Try toggling your "depth of field" setting in the graphics options. If it's off, turn it on, if it's on, turn it off. This should help. The setting only affects cutscenes.

As for your first post, as you've probably learned already, clicking rapidly doesn't work. You have to click ONCE, then wait until the correct time to click again. As for the over the shoulder camera jumping around, I didn't have as much of a problem with this. Maybe try changing your mouse sensitivity in the game? Lowering it might make the camera more steady. Also, the cursor doesn't disappear when it's not on an enemy, it just becomes a very small single dot. It can be hard to see, however.

I think lower mouse sensitivity will help, and just trying to keep the mouse steady while fighting. Don't try to look around while Geralt is attacking or you'll lose track of the enemy you're fighting. With a little practice you'll get the hang of it.

Finally, the start of the game isn't that great, but it really picks up in Chapter 2. Try to get that far if you can. Having said that, if you really aren't liking it, don't force yourself; it's not for everyone.

I continue to monkey with it, but unfortunately, I can't adjust the graphics settings. When I used the "dontenforce..." fix to get the game to even launch, it disables your ability to adjust the video settings. I'm working on it, but boy, this is rough.

I forgot about that. There might be a way to change that setting in an .ini file or something, but I don't know how. Anyone else know how to change graphics settings while using the -dontforceminreqs flag?
The -dontforce fix creates a bug in the texture details, since it locks it to the lowest quality, IIRC. You should look at this page http://www.nexusmods.com/witcher/mods/649/ and download the file. You should crate the Override folder. Keep in mind that this will lock the texture quality to the highest setting. I have a laptop ith an Intel HD 4000 integrated graphics card, 4 gb of ram and a i3 processor and it runs fine.
Also if the characters look "blocky" in the cutscenes, I believe you should use a 16:9 resolution.

Well, I'm determined to like this game, ha ha, even if it kills me!

I beat the Savolla fight. What I had to do was change the camera angle to the far iso, which steadied it enough for me to keep the cursor on him. The camera was often pointed in a way that made little sense, but I was able to pause/issue instruction/unpause enough to get through it... barely.

I'm thinking I may have to use the over-the-shoulder camera for moving around, but switch to iso for combat. A pain in the butt. I really wish there was a way to move the camera in the iso view so it wasn't pointing BEHIND Geralt - or straight into a wall - or wherever it is instead of in front of him so you can bloody well see what's happening. The OTS view simply bounces around so severely I can't use it for combat at all. It's like being in a constant earthquake.

That still seems odd to me, enough so that I wonder if something's wrong. It should behave more or less like mouselook in a first-person game. Can you adjust the mouse sensitivity? Turning it down might help.
Yes, something sounds a bit strange, here...I've played it through three times and I always revert to isometric view--works great. Mousewheel zoom lets you zoom out/in as far as you like so that you can see the entirety of your surroundings, move the cursor to the edge of the screen and the camera will pan perfectly. No problems seeing anything or fighting, etc. I like zoomed out isometric because I can see trouble coming long before it arrives, avoid it if I want, etc...;)
Well, i think its a good game but it takes me some time to get used to it. Sadly i did not check if its 3th person or 1st person. The ladder is a little hard on me. Not bad but different.
It feels ok to play but after so many times playing Skyrim now its a change.
I am not that deep into the game but i will continue as time allows me. The part that interest me most is that it supposed to have an impact what route you take, how you interact with people and what choices you make. It worked in Skyrim ok but we will see.
I played it for the first time two months ago and it completely grabbed by surprise, glad it live up to the hype. Their small details in the towns and forests that make it feel like a true breathing world. Hope you all enjoy it as well.
