Yeah, you have to give a game that lets your arse get kicked in the Prologue some respect. And Act II can be very challenging for certain character types. But you're right; these are great strengths of the game; only the impatient get frustrated by them.

true those kind of games you find rarly these days im glad witcher 2 hasnt changed as it come to diffculty
The swamps in Chapter 2 reminded me of being 15 and playing Diablo. It is one of the rare RPG locations that get the action-horror part right.

But once you do the side quests in Chapters 2 and 3 and work on a decent build and learn the mechanics the game becomes much easier. At the moment, use all your resources (especially potions and oils) to get through and try to come up with tactics to deal with different enemies, that half the fun in the game imho.
if you are playing on Hard then it's essential that you use your potions/magic/stones accordingly, plan ahead and assess to the situations

if you just rush in mindlessly you will get your ass handed to you

I played it on hard also, and I noticed that potions made a world of difference there.

If I took all the right potions, the battles are over very quickly, but without them, I can easily die even from just a crowd of Devourers.

So I wind up filling half my backpack with potions and have to keep running back to store/sale things : /
