Hi, I just purchased The Witcher trilogy. I installed the first edition, thinking i'd start at the beginning. After instill I hit play on the GOG interface. Brings up the game interface. I hit Launch Game and an error message comes up.

witcher.exe - system error
the code execution cannot proceed because d3dx9_35.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem.

I have tried to figure out how to reinstall the game but im lost. I'm not a seasoned gamer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
what are you using- windows, apple or linux?

if it's windows, go to your computer settings and find the apps tab. from there, choose the witcher and click on uninstall.

i'm un-educated on the other 2 systems, so i can't help with those ones.

You have Windows 10 and do not have the correct version of DirectX installed. You need to install DirectX 9 from Microsoft.

thanks so much. I am dl'ing that now. I will post afterwards if successful. :-)

next question as I was not able to dl direct x 9.
I ran a report for customer service last night. On the report it says I'm running direct x 12. Shouldn't that run the game? Sorry I'm a newb at this stuff. Thought I could just dl the game, install and play. I play WoW on the same system and never have an issue.

Windows Dir: C:\WINDOWS
DirectX Version: DirectX 12

No, you need the specific .dll that the game is asking for. (DirectX 9.0C)
But don't worry, adding the older DirectX libraries won't effect your DirectX 12.

I was not able to download from the above 9.0C link either.

Use this link https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109

Click download. Then untick that you want to use MSN & Bing, and click no thanks and continue.
Click on save file.
Make a temporary new folder on your desktop.
Click on the downloaded directx_June2010_redist.exe
Then browse to the new folder, and click OK.
Then scroll down the list of files until you see DXSETUP.exe, and double click on it.
When you see Installation Complete, click on finish. (see pic)
You can now delete the temporary new folder from your desktop.

thanks, this worked and I was able to launch and play the game. This is pretty much the first game i've played other then WoW (which I've played since late 2006). I'm not sure yet if I like this style of game or not. Going to give it a try. Your help is greatly appreciated. :-)
