So, I recently bought the game, and after downloading and installing, I have this problem: The game starts fine, the intro plays fine and all (with some minor audio skips) but then, when I click on "New Game", or when I go to options and click "Video", my screen goes black, the fan on my video card goes to max speed, and I have to forcefully reset my pc. It seems my pc keeps running fine despite this graphic crash, because I left a video running in the background and could still hear it. I searched the "fixes to common crashes" and could find nothing that fits really. This are my specs:

*Graphics card: GeFprce GTX 1060 6gb
*Processor: Intel core i5-7400 3ghz
*8gb RAM
* WIndows 10 pro 64 bits, processor x64

Is there anything I can do for fix this crash?

Witcher 1 had quite some problems with Win7+ but mostly with Win 10.
First think to check is Admin-rights...
Use "Run as Admin"

II. check combytibility
Try combatibility mode with settings Win XP SP3 or Win 7

III.It might be the RAM because W1 had some kind of RAM limit
There was a number of community-patches for this, you have to search for 4gb-patch or use a tool
that allow you to make finetunings for the RAM

IV. Version
Since 1.04 Witcher several users of new(er) PC's had problem...you could try to roll back

there might be more...but this are all problems/solutions i remember, good luck.

Alright, thanks for the help!

Anyway, just for leave record of what happened: I could fix the problem, but I'm not sure what fixed it exactly. I tried all the suggestions you made, and none helped, so I tried something different, but given that I didn't try after doing each thing, I don't know exactly what fixed it:

- First, I opened my video card configuration and changed some settings like vertical sync and others, aside of making my video card be the one choosing the settings rather than use settings of the application.
-Second, I went to compatibility and tried setting it to "windows vista service pack 2".

And somehow, one of those things fixed it and now I can play the game. Hopefully this helps someone else
Well...one can only guess, esp. from the distance :)

But..i think..making your card deciding could solve several problems that are caused by the game being older then your hardware&driver-software and compatility can solve problems with stuff like missing dll's and having a pc wwith much more resources then the game can handle.

Whatever it was....have fun with Witcher and i hope no more problems occur;)
