I just got this laptop:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834131117

And this game has not that good of framerate as i though i'd get from a 4 year old game on medium settings. Is the vid card on this laptop not good enough or is it the stupid optimus thing that's making my laptop use the integrated chipset and not switching over to the card? Is there any way to find out which one it's using? I'm kinda new to PC gaming...

Thanks.

i guess you'll have a problem because that one is known for his very bad drivers.
The driver causes memory leaks and numerous games run bad because of this.
As long as nvidea doesn't take care of the driver you won't be able to run the game smoothly.

you can find the latest driver here

keep a close eye on this since a lot of people are complaining and they are aware of it "Performance

* Increases performance for GeForce 400 Series and 500 Series GPUs in several PC games vs. v266.58 WHQL drivers.
"

hope this helps.

That might hopefully solve your problem, your computer should be able to run the game just fine with everything set to max.

Just remember to set lighting to low, it solves the pixelation and framerate issues during conversations.

If drivers are the issue, as the first reply here mentions, you may want to try (/risk) alternative drivers. e.g. omega drivers (omegadrivers.net iirc)
Don't screw around with third-party drivers or driver sites. The only valid drivers for your rig would come directly from nVidia or Samsung. You need at least nVidia Verde 270.61 (or its equivalent from Samsung support) to allow The Witcher to get around Optimus correctly. Nothing less and nothing else.

If you have the 270.61 or later drivers and still get crap performance, go into the nVidia Control Panel, find 3D Settings -> Application Settings, and set witcher.exe to use the "high Performance nVidia GPU".

I thought I had the latest driver since i updated about 2-3 weeks ago, but I guess i didn't. After installing 270.61 performance is quite good on max settings. Not perfect but close enough. Thanks a lot guys!
