Finally finished the novels and want to play the witcher series through from start to finish. Of course nothing is that simple and now I have nothing but crashes.

I can boot up, adjust all settings watch cinematics.... but no matter what, the game crashes anywhere from 10 seconds to 10 minutes. And hard crashes that require powering off my computer then back on. The screen usually goes black, but sometimes a different colour(green, pink, Orange, Grey) and then sits there, completely unresponsive. There is no correlation to what causes it either. I can be the middle of a combat animation, or just sitting there not moving.

I have updated my video card drivers, verified the install, ran it in windowed mode. It makes no difference, all seems to crash. I even dropped all graphics options to low. That seems to work, as I then begin slowly raising one thing, playing for a few minutes, and raise something else. It seemed that I can run high textures, but even that just crashed on me too. No matter what I adjust, it will crash.

Win 10
8 GB Ram
I5-5690K(Not overclocked though)
DirectX12
GTX 970

Can anyone help?

I cannot help you directly 'cause I never had such issues (Win10, i5 6600k, GTX 1070) but in case of Witcher 1 I always set program compatibility to Windows 7 and in NVidia Control Panel turn off Threaded Optimization

I might solve some of your issues.

Thanks. But it made no difference. No change in anytime before it crashes or anything. Just the same. I even uninstalled it and put it on another hard drive. No difference.

This is mighty disapointing.
The GTX970 is a pretty beefy card. Do you have a power supply that meets the requirements for it? The issues you're experiencing tend to be either driver or hardware related. Do other 3D-intensive games ever do this, or is it just the Witcher?

I do have a PSU able to handle this. Hell I bought this rig two years ago to play the Witcher 3, and I have no issues with that game on max settings. And that is the thing, I have no issues with any other game. Just The Witcher, no other game behaves like this.

BTW I have updated my drivers, checked for faulty RAM and even tried this approach too;

Still, hard crashes everytime.
