Hi there!

I have just bought The Witcher EE through GoG. The problem is it seems i can't run it properly. My case can be summarized as 'lots of hiccups, frameskipping'.

Before buying I tried the demo and it ran flawlessly. Not a single problem arose. When i installed the full GoG version on the other hand it was full of hiccups.

The strange thing is hiccups always happen during the same parts of the prologue (ie combat sessions and exploration; cutscenes haven't got any problems, except for the blurriness caused by my 16:10 monitor) . I tried lowering graphical settings to minimum. I tried windowed mode. I tried enabling VSync/Triple buffer through CCC. I installed the game at least three times. I have tried D3D Overrider. I have disabled the antivirus. Nothing changes.

I would like to know if hiccups are a common problem (you have to deal with them because of poor optimization) or if they are caused by my rig.

My specifications are:
ATI 6870 (updated drivers)
q6600 quad core 2.4ghz
4gb ram

What really bugs me is the demo run perfectly.

Thank you for your attention and excuse me for my poor english.

My computer is almost identical to yours and I have no issues with The WItcher. Have you tried de-fragmenting your game files?
Yeah, i have done everything possible. I have even updated audio drivers, but nothing changed.

I forgot to mention that my OS is Windows 7 64bit. I have read somewhere Windows Media Center could be the cause. Should i uninstall it? I didn't know of its existence untill yeasterday...

Also, i use Avast as antivirus. I have made an exception for the witcher.exe. Should i disable protection completely, instead?
Have you uninstalled the demo and try reinstalling the retail game again?
Did you notice the HDD light during the hiccups? Is it on?
Can measure your FPS to see if the FPS really goes down?

I would try to install the game into another HD (if possible) just for the sake of it.
And uninstall and reinstall your display drivers (not overwriting them but a complete reinstall).

Other than that... Can't think of anything. :(
