Hey, I just recently bought The Witcher Enchanced Edition thinking I should be able to run this without any problems and I also when on systemrequirementslab and ran a test and it passed it all.
My problem is, to be able to play the game I have to run in in 800x600 in windows mode, with the lowest graphic testing to avoid graphics lag and the slow performance and it still feels alittle bit jumpy to me.

Here is my specs,
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz
CPU Speed: 2.4 GHz Performance Rated at: 5.28 GHz
RAM: 3.0 GB
OS: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Edition Service Pack 2 (build 6002), 32-bit
Video Card: GeForce 8400 GS, 1.5GB Video RAM

I've updated my drivers and still got the problem, was wondering if anyone could help me solve the problem.

Thanks

As said in another topic, game can be choppy in Prologue, it gets better at the point where you have control over Geralt for the 1st time and should be perfectly fine in the 1st chapter. Keep in mind the game is a little buggy at times. By the way, why would you have to lower everything on a computer like this? You should be allowed to play on highest settings without any lag. I think you should play a little longer and see if it gets any better.
Just got out of the castle, now at the first village. Seems to be running fine without lag now on the lowest settings I've been playing at but tried both medium and high and still get some lag.
Well your PC should be able to do it. Going off the video memory, your card is better than mine although my CPU is better and I have a bit more RAM. However, both our PCs are easily enough to max it out. I have it on maximum everything and it's still fine even with lots of background programs running, even CPU intensive ones.

Have you got the very latest DX? The June 2010 one? http://www.filehippo.com/download_directx/
Just done the DirectX update, doesn't seem like it done much. I am just doomed to play it in the lowest settings which is a shame really.

Is there anyone way to get your frap rate up ingame?
Well I can only suggest the obvious stuff like closing as many background applications as possible, disconnecting from the internet and turning off your antivirus (if possible, some of them are funny with that), restarting (if all your attempts to play have been in this current log in session) and even reinstalling in a different directory, particularly if you installed it in Program Files.
I don't have much running in the background other than msn, and firefox. And I don't see AVG causing me trouble. I have it currently installed in Program Files with some other GOG games I got.

Shall I give it a reinstall? And can I keep my saved data if I do so.
As far as I can remember, AVG used to be pretty heavy. It's been a long time since I used it though.

But the real problem is your video card. If I remember right, the 8400 is about as powerful as my HD3200 - and I must play it on low. The rest of the PC is fine.

I've never had any other problems with my graphics card, I used to play Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead 2, WoW (Wrath), Aion and many others without problems.
This is definately not a hardware problem, I'm using the same cpu as yours, 2GB RAM on Win Xp with GeForce 9600GT and I got no lag at highest settings, with AA x4 and Anisotrophic x16. Do you have enough free space on the HDD? Maybe you could reinstall the game.

If you're really desperate to get the framerate up and you're willing to sacrifice additional visual quality, you can use 3d Analyze to disable shaders and stuff. You shoudn't have to, though.
I would wager it is a hardware problem, unless your computer lacks enough free RAM. In that case, however, other games would exhibit similar behavior, and your hard drive light would be on when it is feeling jerky.

An 8400GS only barely meets the minimum requirements, having about the performance of a non-GT 6600, and is far from the recommended 7900 GTX.

As a nitpick, 1.5GB VRAM reported is due to whatever is giving you that number counting the system RAM that the video card is allowed to use. TurboCache is nVidia's marketing term for it. In the nVidia control panel, you can go to Help, then System Information, and find the actual VRAM under Dedicated video memory.
I've got 150gb free on my HDD so that shouldn't be the problem. Can I keep my saved data if I reinstall it, got to chapter two and don't want to go through that again.
Would that card cause lag on medium?

Probably. Crackedegg gave the OP a good answer: it's just barely minimum for the game.

Turn down most of the eye candy: start with the low preset and see if you get better frame rate.
