i tried the dontforceminreqs thing, with a new shortcut, but it does not work. I've read to put it in the systems folder or something? How on earth do i find where to put it? Verry frustrating. I've looked at all the thread i can find, and i still do not understand. Sorry, i am useless with computers.

Thanks for any help, if anyone can help me..
Go to the game folder and find the file Witcher.exe
Right click on it and choose "send >create desktop shortcut"

Now go to your dekstop and find the shortcut you created above
Ricght click on it and choose properties
Under the Tab "shortcut" look for the target text field
At the end of the target text field add -dontforceminreqs. Leave ONE SPACE between the text that was already there and the text you're adding, so in the end it should look like,

"C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\The Witcher\Witcher.exe" -dontforceminreqs

Start the game using that shortcut on your desktop.
The file Namur is speaking of is in your witcher/system folder and i`ll attach a couple of pics to show in detail what it should look like .

witcher.exe is in system\, one folder down from that. The target should be:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\The Witcher\system\Witcher.exe" -dontforceminreqs

But as Namur said, if you find witcher.exe by browsing for it, and then add (space)(minus)dontforceminreqs after the ending quote mark, you'll get it right even if your install folder is in a different place.

thank you everyone for your help. I cannot for some reason even get winzip to unzip the gog downloader, which i think i need in order to have a proper witcher folder, as i do not have one as is when i downloaded using browser.

So yeah, big frustrating everything right now. My new computer sucks. Thank you anyways, i am too much of a retard to do the most basic things i guess. Appreciate your help nonetheless.

You do not need the GOG downloader if you already downloaded the files via the browser.
Nor does your computer "suck", nor are you a "retard" for getting frustrated with this annoying procedure.

When you run the installer, it will create the folder for the game and the shortcut on the desktop. Usually, that is all you need to do. I guess you got here because when you clicked that shortcut, you got the dialog that said your system does not meet minimum requirements.

Right-click on the desktop shortcut and choose "Copy". Right-click on the desktop background and choose "Paste". You'll get a new shortcut that is called "Copy of The Witcher" or something like that.

Right-click the new shortcut, and choose "Properties". Find the text field that says "Target".

At the end of the text in the "Target" field, you'll see the filename launcher.exe. Change this to system\witcher.exe. Now the target field should read something like:

"C:\(some long directory path...)\system\witcher.exe"

After the closing quote mark, type a space, then -dontforceminreqs. Now the target field should read something like:

"C:\(some long directory path...)\system\witcher.exe" -dontforceminreqs

Click OK, say a prayer to Melitele, and try to launch The Witcher from the new shortcut.

If your computer is actually capable of running The Witcher, the game will come up and run.

If your computer cannot run The Witcher at all, the game will not start, or crash to desktop. If this happens, tell us what make and model of computer you have, and we may be able to provide further advice.

cjrgreen - that worked. Hallelujah! You are a life saver, thank you so much. And everyone else, appreciate your help. Game looks great. Quite the intro. Im playing on a laptop, so i figure i should probably invest in a controller rather than use the touch pad to play it, not sure how that would go.

Anyways, thanks again. Nice to get to play this game finally.

Touch pad is rough, but simply getting a USB mouse to plug into your laptop is probably the simplest solution. The game can be played with a gamepad but it takes some programming to set it up right (check this forum for how to do it) and the game was definitely not designed to be played on a gamepad.
cjrgreen is a genius... You are completely correct with every step of how to get it runnin on windows 8 and up!!!! Thanks
