I surely do hope someone can help me. I've been playing along just fine with the game up until this point with only an occasional abrupt crash out here and there. I get all the way through the Chapter 3 ending and cut scene with the princess. It starts loading to chapter 4 and does a CTD all the time.
I have tried uninstalling, reinstalling the game
I have tried going back from a save at Triss's house and trying a different time of day
I have Rise of the White Witcher mod and have tried a playthrough with and without the mod, using Triss's house as the startiing point which is right before going to the inn to try to set the entire sequence off
Wanting to play this and W2 before going onto W3. Once a long time ago before the EE edtion, I had played through the entire game with no problem.
Now I have the EE director'scut editon from GOG and can't get to chapter 4. Has anyone ever run across any information on possible causes? I can't seem to find anything useful. I am obviously not going to finish the game unless I can figure this out. I do have the 4gb patch installed to the exe as well. Below are my computer specs. Did you try deleting some old save files? Sometimes they can cause crashes and other issues.

Ohh thanks so much for taking time to try to help. I had read this can be an issue and therefore do keep saves to a minimum and do not quick save, also deleting auto saves every so often. Only mod I am using really is Rise of the White Wolf and wolf companion. I did a clean install without those mods and still have the same issue. But thanks

Another thing that comes to my mind is to disable the auto-save feature. I had a problem similar to yours while transitioning from the prologue to the first chapter (although it wasn't a CTD but a freeze), and this fixed it. If this doesn't work, I'm afraid I can't help you further.
