I started playing the witcher a while ago, but for unknown reasons, stopped playing it. Now I want to restart, not from the beginning, but from the last save. The problem is: I have no idea what exactly I'm doing in the story. I'm currently at the point where I have to investigate a murdered men together with that one girl, whose name I have forgotten. But I have no idea why I'm doing this.

So, like the title says: could someone give me a recap and tell me what's going on until this point.

Sounds like Act 2 where you pursue the sorcerer Azar Javed and his henchmen known as Salamandra . You will have to conduct an investigation into who murdered him while proving a list of suspects innocent or guilty through an eventual autopsy with Shani along with many trips to the swamp and back . Numerous side quests that are sub-quests of the main plot . I don`t want to say a lot more because of spoilers and is best experienced first hand .
