I have a new PC running Windows 10 Pro 64-bit, and I thought I'd fire up The Witcher, since I've never really played it much. Anyway, I got the "minimum requirements" dialog which I knew couldn't be right.

I read on the forums here about the -dontforceminreqs switch. The game launches, but I get a black screen. I can hear the opening videos, but no picture. After getting past them, I get a cursor, but still no picture. I can hear the menu as I move the cursor over it.

I've also tried the DirectDraw registry fix, without the switch, and get the same result.

Any way to fix this?

Instead of -dontforceminreqs, you can try the fix listed in this thread:

Maybe that will help?
Thanks Waltorious, but that's the DirectDraw registry fix I mentioned. I get the same result as using the -dontforceminreqs switch.

Ah, sorry! The black screen thing seems like an issue with your video card. What card do you have?

Anyone else had a black screen problem with The Witcher?
You could try starting it in windowed mode.

Or you could try running it in compatibility mode for XP service pack 3
Odd. The game now works fine. The only change I made was to switch from an HDMI lead between my graphics card (GTX 970) to an Elgato capture device, to a DVI lead direct to monitor. Otherwise, there was no change to software or drivers.

Thanks for the help, anyway.

I'm guessing the Elgato capture device was the culprit. Anyway, glad you got it working!
